The first one is the side terracing in front of the Sky Blue stand, the second one is the West End. Both bring back so many memories.

That fencing was horrible, but somehow it came to be accepted.

Evo, have you got a link to the website? I'm curious about the date of the photos - would guess somewhere around 1978 to 1980?

Cameras weren't great in those days were they

Er weren’t the fences were there until after Hillsborough in ‘89? If they were taken down for the all-seater in the rain stadium, they came back as soon as we went back to terracing.

The Kop as well. The outside urinals block was quite pungent.

For us I think they went with the all seater
I can certainly remember in the 1st season running across the pitch for cover in torrential rain at half time with the whole east terrace with no fencing Same with Liverpool fans jumping in in the 4-0 game

Yes, I meant went all seater in 81, they may of come down and back as well like you said. I'm sure it was for the Forest semi final in 1990 they went permently

It’s the West Stand terrace.

The original West End terrace (seen to the left ) was demolished/ dismantled to make way for the West stand.

There was some connection with Twickenham, we either bought the roof from or sold it to the RFU, I can’t remember.

Interestingly the original west terrace wasn’t fully demolished. They just removed the roof. The family stand was then built above it.
The terrace in this picture remained until the 80s when the seats were put in and the steps had to be re-profiled

Wow I don't remember the part-built Sky Blue Stand! I was only a young kid at the time though.

The terrace at the west end was always called the 'west end' regardless of its formal name.

Edit: even after the seats were put in.

I’d say around 91/92 ASICS advertising, when we had them as kit supplier on board below away section?

The west end was divided into three sections until 78 and that photo shows the sections removed with fences up but pre all seater so possibly 78/9/80

Nice to see the first one in particular. Me, my dad, and my granddad stood at the kop end of that terrace in front of the just-completed Sky Blue Stand, for my first ever game at HR. I couldn't see much, but I was hooked.

It's interesting that people always refer to the Covered End (the old Twickenham/Sam Robbins cover) as the West End. It wasn't known as that until the concrete stand was built. (Yes, I know these pictures depict the West End btw).

Edit - FF's pic shows where we stood much better. Just behind the ranks of Invacars!

Taken from the 'crow's nest'. Stood up there for years, and it seems like yesterday. Hard to believe that none of this exists any more.
