Sky sports lead a thread a couple of hours ago saying 6 lower league teams are looking at shamrock rovers player karl sheppard, since then on rovers rambling (they're version to this) they have stated they know of sheff utd and coventry city scouts coming on thursday to watch him and two other players.

Bare in mind hed only cost around 100,000 at most, surely sisu can't fuck this one up

Name rings a bell, he might have scored in the Europa league come to think of it. 100k may be slightly optimistic, as is the idea of a new signing in general.

I remain dubious if we sign a new striker from Shamrock Rovers - it's hardly going to be the 20+ goals per season we so desperately need.

Found this though if anyone wants to check him out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9KdvQuRrNI

Just seen wiki, scoring about 1 in 4 for Galway but 1 in 2 for Shamrock, so seems to know his way around goal. Before people start slating him for only playing in Eire remember where Kean came from!! Young cheap talent, that can hopefully grow with the Club

Cody looked good on youtube so take this with a pinch of salt.

Thats the one mate.

Look at players like Shane Long, Doyle etc... decent players who came over on the cheap.

Thorn is fantastic at finding new talent. If he picks this lad, I'm sure he will be a success

I hope there’s a hint of sarcasm in that post.

Only a little, because he has scouted more hits than misses in my opinion.

Who is Kean?

Robbie Keane? Because he didn't come from Eire, he started his professional career at Wolves. Unless you're talking about a Kean before my time...

Thorn does need to have a good signing, he hasn't proved anything with murphy and mcdonald, I'd rather he never brought in them two

I'm not sure SISU have too much sway over Sky Sports.

Wolves signed Keane when he was 15 and he went to play in their youth academy so a bit different.

Yeah but I'd much rather have Murphy in goal than no keeper at all (which it otherwise could have been pre-season :/)

I'd like to think McDonald is being given a good run in the reserve team currently to get him firing on all cylinders so hopefully he can make a difference in the first team - complete waste of a signing (after all the hassle it took to get a new player) for him to just sit on the bench.

I think I'd probably prefer having Roy Keane in our starting line up currently than half the useless bunch we've got.

To be fair he's come through Everton's academy and been released in 2010 and then went to play in Ireland.

Ahh excellent, that means if we sign him, we might half have a chance of having a striker that can play with Jukebox up front!

Karl Sheppard

Age 20 (DOB: 19/02/91)

5' 11" tall

Galway Utd: Scored 8 in 35 games
Shamrock Rovers: Scored 9 in 18 games

A tad nervous on this one - smacks of Cody McDonald, Robbie Simpson, Freddie Eastwood, Roy O'Donovan, Gary Deegan et al - all good/very good players in lower leagues but just can't hack it higher up.

I know jury is still out on Cody but the evidence is there with these sort of signings.
