I have a view. Robins needs to stay. And I can argue that without making things up unlike some.

It’s not our job to suggest replacements, in fairness. I would like Robins to turn it around in the next few games, but this just feels different to when we have been on bad runs in past seasons

If you went back to the start of the play off season and said the next 3 seasons we’ll have a poor season ( lower\mid table } reach a FA cup semi final and get to a play off final, and some fans would be calling for robins to go, what would you honestly think ?

Tinfoil hat time but maybe the coaches were bought in in readiness for when/if Robins goes

I wouldn’t be surprised with some- who are always ultra negative anyway- but the huge pile on is disappointing.

Insufferable is the same post, seemingly every year, which has proved to be habitually fuckingwrong.

The only thing that’s even remotely in the OP’s favour this time, is the law of averages.

I agree that things are pretty desperate and there's not much to feel positive about. I do feel that we should stick with Robins though. He has been great for us as we all know and it is still relatively early in the season. I would give him until Christmas to turn it around. 3/4 wins in the next 5/6 games would change the picture dramatically.

Replace “context” with “distortion” and it’s a little more accurate.

It is a justifiable standpoint though as change does not automatically mean things get better. Whoever the 3 relegated clubs end up being, the likelihood is that all will make managerial changes sometime in the season, just like last season, where they all actually made multiple changes.

Football is an emotional sport and it is understandable why knee jerk reactions amongst fans are so common, and whereby they find it hard to objectively view the big picture. Look at any match thread for evidence of that! I remember years ago everyone outside Charlton fans themselves being bemused that they wanted rid of Curbishley despite him repeatedly getting them to finish the PL in 8th, with them bemoaning that he had taken them as far as he could, and that a new manager was needed to move them forward. When you get a long standing manager it is easy to take them and their achievements for granted, and not give them due credit.

We are obviously going through a lean patch at the moment, which is doubly disappointing given our high pre season expectations. The fact is though MR himself has turned things round after bad starts in previous seasons so it makes no sense not to give him the opportunity to do so again, when he has proven before that he can turn things round. If it wasn't our own club and you were able to look at this dispassionately and with a clear head, and unless there is some standout manager to replace him, replacing a manager that will warrant legendary status with another bum from the managerial merry go round makes very little sense.

thats a lot of words …

this is not knee jerk.

its completely understandable to say “things don’t always get better”. Absolutely. But I would fight tooth and nail to as a bare minimum stay in this league now, and ultimately if that means change manager then I’m sorry but loyalty and the past means nothing.

it’s not reasonable to suggest that because fans don’t know who will replace Robins that means the points are invalid.

I crash cars for a living. I don’t run transfermarkt. In my spare time I don’t tend to fornicate over manager stats from across the globe either.

The robins era has surely come to an end.

Robins as a manager is a curious character. He really has only ever achieved anything with difficult ownership structure.

He excelled at Rotherham under almost impossible circumstances and in his first stint here. He developed an affinity with Sepalla and Fisher. If we are being honest his one major achievement was League one promotion. League two was a poor season ending with a charitable referee and a fortunate outcome.

Yes we achieved the play offs mainly with the goals of Gyokeres, the resilience of Mcfazdean and the second half of the season when Hamer starting playing at a level beyond which he’d achieved at the start of the season.

The cracks were beginning to show last season. We achieved a huge points tally in the middle 23 games - around 45 points. We achieved 19 at the beginning and the end. O hare returned and definitely distorted the whole season. We had -around 19 points in the other 23 games.

The Sisu gang of players Robins was effective with have gone. His sidekick has gone. If the new coaches are poor that needs addressing for sure but it’s a modern day structure. Robins isn’t a modern day manager and he is looking bereft of ideas and motivation.

As the old dance The Gentleman’s Excuse me says - under Mark Robins we are now taking one step forward and then taking two steps back.

The fans are tired of this dancing and we are now finished dancing.

It’s time to exit stage left.

Summary. Robins has had no success apart from all the times he’s had success which I’ll attribute to something else.

Here’s the next 5 games:
QPR (A)
Luton (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Derby (H)
Sunderland (A)

that takes us to the international break

We then play
Sheff Utd (H)
Burnley (A)
Cardiff (H)

realistically which game does the turnaround under Robins start?

the last 2 seasons we had similar starts - but we weren’t as bad performance wise as we have been this season.

MR is frustrating from time to time with his stubbornness and late substitutions, however, the blame doesn’t solely lie with him, I think the interference from the owner has impacted his freedom in how he likes things! Also, the recruitment has been mostly poor and I believe DK is sanctioning the purchase of players with sell on fee in mind.
If any player is not wanting to train or not performing ‘drop them’… but if it is a midfielder, wrap them in cotton wool as I have never known a squad so thin in the middle of the park and surely they know this??? We all do and can see it week in week out when the likes of Sheaf is out injured.
So sad it has come to this but it is a results business and it is a huge wage bill to take into L1
