Alright, first things first, this is just my personal views, nothing else, but let’s get a couple of the myths out the way first. Firstly you can see the pitch, but it’s not exactly a comfortable experience to watch it, so anybody who claims the ‘only going because of a free view’ is a mentalist IMHO. Also, not sure if any of the people there post any confrontational stuff on the message boards but if they do they don’t do their cause any favours. Was slightly concerned I’d rock up to a bunch of frothing mentalists, but it’s not like that… they all seemed perfectly decent, reasonable.

So anyway, we’ve established we’re all fans of the same fucking team, right? It’s been a while since I’ve been to a proper game, like. King played, we played Cardiff at the Ricoh, that’d have been my last one. Lost the will to live where CCFC was concerned after that. Did ironically go to Sixfields to watch Northampton lose 4-2 to Cheltenham. Thornton swaggered aimlessly around for 5 minutes, Bas Savage warmed up, fans pleaded for him not to come on… was quite a fun experience.

But somewhere deep within me still beats a heart that cares about this club. I have to show it some way, I want to see us all care, I want to be part of something that shows we all care. I'm no leader of men, but it doesn't stop me having ideas of what directions we should be heading in to show we care.

Today? Certainly not fun! Just rolling up to the ground, all kinds of odd emotions really. It’s actually just as quick, and easier, for me to get to Sixfields as the Ricoh. But well, Claret and Blue aren’t a good combination to throw together for us, are they? The place just had the stench of death about it. Let’s call a spade a spade, shit attendances in the ground, shit attendances outside it. Vast, open, empty spaces and just a general feeling of getting on with it. We’ve got the best (well, maybe not best, but most positive) team we’ve had for ages, it should be an air of anticipation but instead there’s a sense of making the best of it.

There’s also an air of resignation, and that’s worrying. The only impression we’re giving at the moment is that nobody wants to watch the team, nobody wants to stand up as a fan of us either. If you were a watching owner keeping a weather-eye on what to do next, if you were a potential buyer of the club, if you were a passing landlord wandering whether it’s worth keeping the ground open for them… unfortunately to all of them you’d call it that the club may as well be allowed to die as dignified a death as it’s possible to do so. The emptiness, the lack of desire, the sheer open spaces… it’s just not saying ‘passion’.

I’ll add the personal thing here too. Having friends who are either plastic fans of bigger clubs, fans who’ve lost interest, or fans who can’t bring themselves to go to Northampton I find myself having to toddle up alone. In itself this is a depressing event, football’s supposed to be a social event, right? Frankly it was all so miserable I couldn't speak to anyone. Just stood there, a slight feeling of despair that it comes to this.

The whole thing has the stench of death about it, and that’s been brought home to me today very clearly. This is our club in its last throes. It’s a bit like with a terminally ill relative, better to visit them even though they’re not aware you go, or keep the memories of when they were well intact?

So let’s not beat about the bush, let’s call a spade a spade. The hill is not working as a protest, not enough people are willing to go there. The only image we’re giving off is that nobody cares about the club and that’s not true, is it, as otherwise we wouldn’t be wasting our time posting here and elsewhere. We need a leader, we need the ability to rouse some passion, to assert that we are Coventry, we need enough people to get up and say that. To remind the powers that be that a club’s worth saving.

At the moment, frankly, it isn’t. It’s a basket case that’s only going to get worse, and we’re not even showing we care, just that everybody’s given up.

So what we need is not recriminations, but we do need a consistent message, we do need something we can all get behind, we have to remember, all of us, that what we write on here can often seem worse than in person. We all (all of us) need to stop our self obsessed ego centric views and we need to all have an open discussion about where to go next. We need to start reminding ourselves we care before it’s too late, and for god’s sake that needs us all to come together. I'm reminded of cashless's report on the trust, that they were decent, well meaning people in need of some help, and the same probably applies if we're looking at getting messages out there. I can salute peoples' efforts, be concerned about the effect of those efforts.

Because make no mistake, as it is our club will die, and the only thing we can do is show it's worth saving.

The Sky commentators did not give that sort of view on things at all. They still maintained that we are a big club in a shit situation that just shouldn't be happening. Rossler was very complimentary and mentioned the Premier days and our great support, others referred to the 34 years unbroken top flight run. The 'Hill' folk were mentioned and shown repeatedly and made a very valid point to their credit.
We are in the shit alright but not dead and buried. Our plight is hampered by stubborn business executives, a toothless football league administration and an overall situation where the games importance has been downgraded anywhere below the Premiershite !

It could be argued 90 per cent of fans have decided (for whatever reason) not to go to Northampton. Given the circumstances, that might be viewed as a remarkable degree of unity. Absence can only make so much of a statement. Nevertheless, the sight on TV today of all those empty seats in a small ground spoke volumes.

I'm saying we need an open, without prejudice discussion about how to show there is a latent support out there.

Before that support gives up completely.

The support is there. They even mentioned on sky how we are taking more to wolves than we are avaraging at 'home'.

It is sad & depressing that you feel this way NW.

You are not alone.

You have to realise that the very fact that so many people will not go into sixfields when the football on the pitch and the results are at a pretty good standard as far as Cov are concerned..... it's hurting alot of people.

I personally think SISU have now got the message that they are approx 12,500 down on what they would be getting at Coventry.

I welcome listening to anything else anybody can put forward that may show the fans view in a positive way..but I truly believe the medicine is working,,SISU are not gonna come out and admit it...It may all be very depressing..but I truly believe the stay away policy will force hands of all concerned in the not too distant future.

because were not playing in coventry. i honestly believe if we were we would be getting 10,000 at the very minimum. we have a team to be very proud of and i just wish i could go and see them. pressley and his team deserve massive credit for the way they are going about their business at the moment. jsut need the owners to match them and do whats right and return to the city of which they take their name.

But you're asserting statements, and not suggesting how to demonstrate this.

And this is the problem, we all assert that we'd all turn up if we were in Coventry, but it doesn't *show* it, does it?

I understand what you are saying. It was my first time up there today after being a Sixfields attendee. I have total respect for the people up there as it is not a pleasurable experience and it must take a lot to drag yourself over there every other week for that. It is so sad that these are the only people willing to actively do something to try and change things. Are there better ways to get the message across? Perhaps, but I won't criticise anyone for standing on the hill. I was made to feel very welcome too, and it is clear that they all have the best of intentions, so they all have my respect.

So it might, but it's a good idea to wave a hand in the air and say 'hi, remember we're here'.

Otherwise it looks like we aren't.

And the longer those who aren't going have without the opportunity to wave a hand in the air, the more likely it is that they're not here anymore.

I know what your saying NW...but just how can you show it..I actually feel the low Sixfields attendances now that we are playing this well will surprise alot of fans.

Remember TF estimated around 7,000..he's so far off it's funny!

Sky interviewed a guy from the telegraph which was shown on the pre match build up,he was saying how if they stay in Northampton for 5 years that's a whole generation of Coventry kids who won't support the city, that kind of hit home.

Ive lost the bug as has my dad and my kids are no longer bothered either. My kids didn't even want to watch it on the tv.

This move to sixfields is suicidal. I honestly don't think that we will recover are fanbase if we stay there for 3 to 5 years.

It's not even that. There'd be a fanbase. May not be me, nor you, but there'd be one. Let's not even get to the 5 years, we won't last that long.

But, allow me to be briefly selfish and I'd still (just) quite like to be that fanbase. That, frankly, needs us to show that we're out there waiting, so all the parties involved say 'I'd like a piece of that'.

Otherwise... we're doomed.

The media often get a lot of grief (mostly deserved!) but I think Sky were very good to us today, they presented us in a good light and closed out with the song "We've got to get out of this place" which could have been applied to both sides!

As a season ticket holder last year I have made the choice not to go to home or away games this year - I am just so disillusioned with the whole situation, however seeing players such as Baker, Clarke, Murphy and L Clarke playing their hearts out hit home today as these were the players I was cheering for last year. - They and S Pressley have done nothing wrong and a lot right. However this isn't enough to make me want to go and watch them and pay my money to SISU...

I think packing out away grounds really shows that the fans are there and ready to go .... Sky mentioned the numbers that went / were going to one of the away games, maybe Wolves but I don't recall. The Port Vale numbers show it even more clearly.

The consensus seems to be that a decent team scoring lots of goals will slowly increase numbers over time ... but what I get from you most NW is that going to the game is perhaps more likely to make people not want to go back. If that plays out it will be real trouble for Sisu as even a playoff-bound team won't help the attendance.
