The Ricoh can generate an atmosphere as good as any ground in the country.

"Part Time" fans don't turn up just to boo the players.

The players are capable of performing in front of a big crowd.

Anymore?

Just have an issue with the last one. The players still make every attempt to throw it away in front of a big crowd. Great night but Gills should have had 3 in the last 15 mins

Confirmed what we knew all along the ricoh is not a souless bowl.

When full and rocking its 1 million times better than HR!

The atmosphere as like nothing else seen in Coventry. (Apart from 87 parade)

Shows true potentail of the club.

There was no negativity.

When the whole stadium stood up to stand up if you love city, no denying that was special.

Well, I'm not going to say it's a "million times better than" HR. It was a great atmosphere, but it took nearly a decade to get one. Let's hope we (and the team) can keep it up.

Agree with all of that. Fans were teriffic. Easily the best support at the Ricoh. Let's keep it up.

I think Gillingham deserve a bit of credit, they have some pace in attack were well organised and played some decent football. Yes they created some good chances we rode our luck a couple of times, but that is football.

i didn't see anyone trying to throw the game away. We didn't implode. We kept to our passing game and didn't resort to sitting deep and hitting the ball long..

this side is still learning and progressing. We have a lot of young players and a lot of new faces. It was another step in the right direction last night.

By putting a few myths to bed, we seem to have created a new one, that this was the first brilliant atmosphere in 10 years. Just not true.

Figure of speech in terms of easy chances we gave them. Terrific night but now we can get back to talking footy and take away the emotion it was a scraped win

Couldn't go last night, watched it on TV so not able to comment on the atmosphere one, but any near full stadium creates atmosphere, especially on night games but to have a little go at our performance and "Gills should have scored three in the last 15 minutes" is a bit harsh, although we did fade for those last 15/20 minutes I thought we did great overall and the occasion was always going to catch up with us a bit without a second goal..

I think it's the high intensity pressing, you just can't keep it up for 90 mins

Agree with that high intensity thing, it's okay until fitness fades then looks like we could be picked off. It will be interesting to see how many late goals we concede, but this is basically a new set of players and will take time to develop, but for an hour we were well on top and should have put the game to bed earlier.

Another myth busted, that everyone in the world is against Coventry, I cannot remember a more biased game on Sky, the commentator said numerous times how he wanted CCFC to win for the fans, even Peter Taylor showed sympathy. Can we lay the Coventry don't get the coverage to bed please as its simply not true !

Atmosphere was the same against Crewe and Leeds and Wolves.

If we had some of the matches at the Ricoh that we had at Highfield road
Ie villa, Liverpool Man Utd Arsenal the atmosphere would have frequently matched and surpassed Highfield road.

You only remember the good atmospheres at HR not the shocking times

The football owners need to give the fans something worth the atmosphere when they do they get it.

I think most small clubs struggle to get coverage.

The perception of bias comes from Gary Newbons time as sports editor on Central Tv. During that time Central basically become a Leicester propaganda channel.

I am sure the experience was fantastic for all and they will all be back next Saturday.

After all its the customers who decide if the experience was enjoyable by loyalty measurements and return ratios.

The atmosphere last night was probably the best it's been at the Ricoh and as loud as anything I can really remember at HR { and that includes the West End with no seats}. Blackburn in the cup came a close second. I was at all the other major games there except Chelsea so can't comment on that one. There's nowt wrong with that stadium, it looked resplendent with the fans on their feet bringing the house down.

Teamwise, I'm getting familiar like many others, stand outs for me were obviously Haynes, then O'Brien perhaps and Johnson. Not sure I liked the way we let them come onto us all game, on another day we are going to make crucial mistakes under that pressure. Oh and we looked knackered for the last 10 minutes, I imagine that would be down to a lot of nervous energy pre match and doing a fair bit of chasing for a lot of the game.

I think I missed 5 and 4 of those in one season.

The fact is its a more convenient time and also an opportunity for those who didn't go on Friday to attend.

There is no excuse for a sub 20,000 crowd

It's pretty likely it will be less than 20k though, so why waste your time relentlessly posting about it.
We all want the ground to be full so you aren't even making any particular point that nobody agrees with.

That is what pisses me off.
Fans like Grendel always looking for a negative,
Then blame others for it.
Fuck Me if he what's everything to be right support some one else.
When he finds that club let us all know??

Could say the same about those that moan about how we haven't had a top 6 finish in 100+ years and selling our best players, and generally being shit.

Fans come and go, some drop off, then there are the newbys, it is evolution, if that didn't happen Fisher's new ground will have to have a capacity of thousands more than what the Ricoh holds. As for next Saturdays gate baring in mind the cost would be about 20 odd quid that will have an effect, so I think 15000+ will be about right

I've never really got on board with the whole 'Ricoh is soulless' thing. It's a new stadium, nothing's really built with whatever soul is supposed to manifest itself as - that's something created by moments and memories in the stadium.

For next week we know that the attendance will be considerably lower, let's not ride our high horses into the sunset about it. It's still the third division and tickets are still relatively expensive for what they are (that's across the board for football) so it takes a special attraction to pull everyone in, like last night being an event. If we get 14000+ next week I think that's very good, and if we start to build momentum with results and positivity 'regular' games will start to become events and people will come back and stay and we can stop screaming at people who aren't as great fans as we are.

customers do decide weather to return based on how much they enjoy it and I'm sure last night will really help sales, but we all know sales really needed helping, so if we get 12k+ then its a big success. Everyone knows that the next game won't have the same experience as this one so its hardly going to be a surprise that many people won't come next time, the next game is more than twice the price for a significantly lower experience so less people will come, if people actually thought next saturday would be a similar experience we'd be getting a much much bigger attendance but we all know it won't be, that was a special one off night.

It takes more than one game to hook people back, the majority had not seen most of those players before, how many do they know now? Hayes and Nouble because they stand out visually and impacted the game, you need to get people back 4 or 5 times for them to really get to know the team and get properly hooked, I think it would have been smart to go with a very low season ticket price for a season to try and build the fan base back,

Amazing night, yes it was unorganised but you were expecting that to be fair given the timescales. The fans were superb through most of the game, much better than the Crewe game (as I think we were a little nervous). Just hope we can replicate this through the season but will be interesting to see attendances over the coming games.

If we managed 16k, we would almost fill the south and the Tesco stands... the atmosphere would be great.

I agree with Grendel on this one. The attendance should and I think will be close to 20k. I would expect about 3/4 of last nights gate to come back. Add to that the people that were "gutted" about not getting tickets, people that couldn't make it because it was a Friday, and people who watched on tv which may have re-ignited their passion.

Awesome atmosphere. People generate noise not seats. The Ricoh felt very much like home.

I think with all the adrenaline and build up to the game some of the youngsters were spent for the last 30 mins. Gillingham also moved the ball quite well. Importantly, they ground it out to cap a memorable night.

Obviously the attendances will drop from the first game.

The real challenge is if we can keep the atmosphere and intensity generated with only 15k in the stadium, should be able to with the North stand closed and everyone packed into the south and east stands.

I think you can too, while its understandable those people who have lost the seat that sat in for years are upset, I think closing the north stand was a fantastic decision and will greatly help atmosphere.

The Preston JPT game had an awesome atmosphere and that was pretty much just the East stand wasn't it?
