I hope this doesn’t seriously come back to bite me later in the season but I think we might be looking at a different Coventry.
Now throughout my years of watching Cov there seems to be a trend of weak mentality installed in the players. Going a goal behind normally means a loss and the usual Christmas slump seems inevitable. But this season I feel it’s different and Pompey, Blackpool And Oxford show that. Pompey was terrific I personally expected a loss and to draw with 9 men after being 3-1 down. On Saturday when Blackpool scored their second part of me worried that we would roll over and get smashed 4-0 but we rallied and came back and beat a quality side. Oxford away of course is disappointing now you look at it but normally we are the team that is battering someone and somehow loses 2-0 but we were winning that game despite being under pressure. The character shown to get back in front is great albeit didn’t last long but it’s still a positive I think.

I think you're right, though as you say, being Cov this will probably come back and bite you on the arse.

Good post. I’ve been thinking the same, we’ve had decent starts in the past but this time the fight and character seems promising - I said the same when we had the likes of Armstrong, Murphy, Maddison, Kent, Fleck etc. So I hope we’re not speaking too soon.

IMO Oxford were the better team on the day, it would’ve been great to hold on at the end but over the 90mins 1 point was a good result. Keep thinking about that Bolton game too.

The old cliché ‘It’s a marathon, not a sprint’ springs to mind. We will lose at some point - I hope it doesn’t send us on a massive downhill trend. I really hope we can carry on socking it to teams for the whole season.

If Robins is still here in May (which I think he will be) we'll be there or thereabouts

For season after season we had 12 or 13 first team players and the rest either inexperienced kids or knackered journey men with no desire. 10 games in we have a depleted squad and struggled with the reserves in and out of the squad all season. We seem to have a squad all capable of playing when needed and have shown that thus far. It’s a long season and players can now be rested when needed and the replacements have what it takes to carry on fighting for every point.
Keep it up Robins.

It's how we do against the bottom teams will be the test ,that has always been a problem ,we can complete with the top six teams it's just putting away the teams at the bottom we have always struggled with ,crack that and who knows

I think there are a few of the top teams who will beat each other, so to pick up points against the likely contenders is key for me. Said in an earlier post we look quite capable of winning at least 15 of our 22 'home' games (4/4 so far, and if we beat Wimbledon that would mean winning only 10 of the remaining 17) That would give us a solid platform to be in the mix.

It's great and I'm enjoying it, but I can't get excited over league position in September.

If we're 6-8 points clear of 7th place come Christmas then I'll get excited about promotion. For now I'll just enjoy each match and the winning mentality that the players seem to have.

We look mentally tougher this year which is great. Have you interviewed any of the new players yet. Best of luck interviewing McFazden he looks a beast

We need to see how they react after a couple of defeats, always assuming that we don't do an Arsenal and go unbeaten all season.

Twice now we have come from 2 goals down to get something. (once with only 9 players). Next time we are 2 goals behind I will be thinking genuinely we can still win this. When has that happened before?

Mcfadzean was in junior sky blues area before Gillingham game - he was great with kids - chatting away and smiling.... he is a big lad / beast though, so you can imagine a few forwards being wary of him!

Just a shame the ref and linesmen didn’t go to spec savers for the Bolton game

Not being harsh on the guy himself, blah blah club legend blah blah, but you might have something there. Can’t see us ever playing the ball comfortably out from the back like we do now if Oggy was still coaching the keeper.

There’s a lot more to it than just that, but it’s part of the picture. It builds confidence. Once I saw how deep Blackpool were standing off us & giving space to play from the back in the second half on Sat, I knew we had the better of them.

Things might change dramatically if Godden gets a bad injury and Bakayoko takes his place!

Let's just all keep very quiet, and not tempt anything just yet!

The big difference is goals/taking chances.... in all competitions last season we only scored more than 2 on 3 occasions.... we've already scored more than 2 on 4 occasions in our 1st 10 games.

Its got fuck all to do with Oggy. The difference in keepers is down to getting rid of Burge

Lol, we’ve got two keepers now who play identically & you reckon it’s got nothing to do with how they’re coached? Dimwit.

If that is the case, (and I'm not saying it is).

Why did Robins persevere with Oggy?
I also doubt persevering with Burge was anything to do with Oggy either.

I wouldn't like to get an Allen's taxi to the Samartians - be a bit costly I reckon

RyanAir do Birmingham to the Samaritans and back for £99 (extra for the baggage though)
