AT in today's Telegraph:

"He's the focal point of what we do."

"He's the cog in our wheel."

Tells me that if that's true and he gets injury we are well and truly fooked. Bigi is a similar type of player, but there is no way that the young lad can carry all that burden should Clingan get injured and be missing for any length of time.

Well that seems clearly apparent barring either; 1. A miracle and that we somehow go the entire season with our key players not getting injured or 2. We bring in loan players now or transfers in the January window.

Now considering that by Jan our financial plight will be so much worse you would have to say the likelihood of bringing any new players in is diminishing by the minute.

So we may as well get Clingan off the wage bill now then.

I bet he doesn't clingon :claping hands: to his contract like Eastwood has been doing.

Clingan will gone in Jan if he does not sign a new contact, SISU won't let he go for nothing....

Didn't we say that about Westwood though?

Recall Ranson saying exactly that. That no way would we let him leave the club for nothing.

But he lost control around jan/feb and the new strategy was never going to allow decent terms to be offered, however i think westwood was never going to stay.

So he lost control after the transfer window when we could no longer sell him?

Clingan is the most overrated and over praised players along with McSheffrey both contibute nothing to any game. Clingan always goes backwards, has no forward passing range, and for a set piece specialist his free kicks are always too deep. When was the last time we scored from a corner or any set piece. Should have sold him to Leeds for £1 mill when we had the chance

Sounds like he sits snuggly with the way CCFC have been going on these past 20 years.

Hmm a tricky one I think personally he is majorly overrated......however we cannot afford to lose any more players at present.

However worse case scenario we do have a young enthusiastic replacement in Bigi. In my opinion Clingan and himself were too similar in the team together. Do not know where people get Bigi should play at tip of diamond.....clueless he is much more suited to Clingan's position.

If we could get decent money for Clingan and Deegan stayed fit we would not miss him half as much as some people think. A centre mid of deegan and Bigi could work quite nicely in my opinion!! imp:

I agree. I cannot see what the fuss is all about. I can only assume it is the desperation to see something good when there is nothing. I remember on CWR someone describing a Clingan performance as a midfield masterclass. I think not and this season he has been truly awful.

Still disagree with this view, though. He's been pants of late, I accept that, but he was still carrying us before the last few games. The problem we've got is that the best passing football we played went through Sammy, Bell and McSheffrey. Sammy started good and has gone downhill with the team, possibly under the weight of leadership-whilst the other two have started badly and had maybe one good game apiece. That makes Sammy being in poor form even more obvious, and the pep that Deegan added against Blackpool transformed the midfield to such an extent that it should embarrass the others. But we do need an on-form Sammy-we don't have a passer as good as him.

I can't remember the last time he passed a ball more than 10 yards. Most of the time the game passes him by. Next you'll be telling me Bell is worth the 4 year deal.

I think Sammy is a great player but he's either too scared or been told not to play his usual game. Either way he's been poor of late. Maybe a short spell on the sidelines wouldn't be the worst thing?

I think a good rest and time to rethink is what a few players in our squad really need, with such a small squad and so many problems at the club the lads are under a lot of pressure to perform in such a tough league and I think it's showing on some such as Hussey and Sammy lately. However, because we have such a small squad it's not possible! Hope it's not a serious injury because he can be our best player some games.

I personally think Clingan has had a poor start to the season for his standards. His set pieces, corners etc are poor and he just hasent been his usual self. Having said this we can't really afford to lose him.
