Manager? Keeper? Tactics? Who knows.
Pick whichever ones suits your argument and enjoy the win.

I'm going with my new lucky pants.

Wasn't Venus on the touch line for most of the game talking to the players as well? Could make a difference.

Front 3 was different too.

No pressure today , no managers future at stake , Venus had no worries pre match .
Played very well and felt like the pressure was gone

Not saying burge is better than rcc but I always think a keeper has a much bigger impact on a team than is obvious

The big difference was that we moved the ball forward a LOT quicker than we had been doing. It stretched Port Vale and enabled us to open them up. Under Mowbray we were getting to the final third and playing the ball accross and back allowing teams to get set defensively and losing our momentum. We were also more confident in having shots instead of looking to pass the ball to someone else.

It's a great win. Got to build on it now and get out of the bottom 4. Can see SISU going for MV as it's the cheap option.

I imagine nothing much changed. Mowbray was always gonna have us winning soon.

Shame I could see it and he couldnt

I think TM is a good manager and with the right financial backing and budget he would have been a success here.

Unfortunately it has proved that he is not the man to work under a constraining budget such as ours. Even last season , in January he recruited very badly.

Give him the money and he will be fine, but we need someone now with a keen eye for more Chris Stokes type bargains.

TM's recruitment on the whole hasn't been good. Turnbull? No better than Martin. Ghadzev? Then we had the Hunt's and Ramage's and Henderson's (just one of each fortunately).

I liked TM a lot, but without a wad of money being thrown his way I don't think he would truly have been a success here.

A couple of interesting things.

Venus said that the players did what they had been working on for the last couple of days.
Turnbull said something about having direction and a plan.

Chris Stokes is the reason I'll never rubbish another signing we make again before they've had a chance to play.

Watching the highlights. The midfield 3 were so advanced, 2 took it in turns to bomb on while the other one sat.

McCann was pressing their defenders at one point.

Bit of a contradiction here Otis. You say 'give him the money and he'll be fine' but then said he recruited badly and on the whole it wasn't good. I was a TM defender right up until a few months ago. TM's problem doesn't have as much to do with money as many people think. His problem is his formation for one, we have never suited 3-5-2 and he even said earlier in the season he doesn't have much confidence in the defence at the club so why play 3 at the back which is an exposing formation?

His recruitment has been awful this season completely. His substitutions are either far too early or too late. He always starts Jones on the bench who is one of our dangerous players and seems to take effecting players off after 60 because they are tired. They never seems to be a Plan B. He trys to keep possession but in doing so, the play slows down allowing teams to get behind the ball. It worked so well last season for 4 months because our movement and forward play was explosive, quick and direct and that shocked teams. In the 2nd half, they got wise to it - again, no plan B. This ultimately is why I think it's failed for him.

There are managers out there that can get more out of teams like ours and you can win 5/6 games a season based on tactics. You might not be the better team but tactics can win you tight games.
