It seems the main issue why Bolton cannot fulfil their fixtures is the players are refusing to play because they haven't been paid - not bad reasoning as it has gone on for nearly 6 months - what I cannot understand is why the PFA not stepped in and started pay the wages -It has been reported that the PFA have £50 million pounds sitting in the bank - The club at some point will have new owners so will not go on forever

The PFA may well have £50M in their bank, but do they really want to pay out? any history of them doing this previously?

I’m pretty certain they have loaned Bolton and bury players to supplement them but obviously they can’t just pay wages

Dangerous precedent to set. Would open the floodgates for unscrupulous owners to not pay wages whenever it suited them.

Bury is an example of what can happen if you "speculate to accumulate"

Bad precedent to set though surely? "Don't worry lads you can run your club like a jumble sale and we'll just bail you out when it goes tits up!"

I don't think they particularly "speculated" it sounds more like a boardroom level finance war between previous and current owners, Bury fans appear to think current owner is a crook and absolutely full of it.

As a loan or have they paid off the debt? A loan I can see making sense, the owners have said they will pay over 24 months, players understandably want their money now.

I think from past experience the PFA only advance funds to pay their members' salary, or part of it
This will only apply to players and any coaches that remain PFA members I suspect
The advance may well be secured against future payments from the EFL to the club
I've seen the PFA do this with a host of clubs in recent years
They are a union when all's said and done and the players are all members

I remember a few years ago Bury selling the land around Gigg Lane including their car parks to fund player purchases in an attempt to get to the Championship. Leon Clarke etc. wouldn't have been cheap. It rang alarm bells at the time and I've been expecting some trouble ever since, it appears to have been made worse by their most recent chairman being a liar.

Yeah I remember that but I was under the impression they had to turn that round pretty quickly after not going up and got rid of a good few. Either way let's hope they get it sorted, I think cov fans have a new found sympathy for clubs in these positions.

It's a flipping long walk from Coventry though.

Visited Bury once by steam train (from Bolton), oddly enough passed Old Trafford on the way there. There was a cricket match in progress.

I seem to remember there was a Bury fan on here a few years ago bragging about their new found wealth. Didn't turn out too good for him in the end.

It was one of the last which is why we bought a ticket to Bury rather than somewhere more interesting.

The Wanderer's stadium was next to Bolton station in those days and Horwich - where the current 'Bolton' stadium is located - was the former headquarters of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company.

I always thought it was a mistake moving to an out-of-town stadium.
