Totally agree. I find all the negativity a bit odd. We are in an incredible position having had one of our best seasons for decades. The meltdowns after every game are getting a little tiring.

We're playing terrible at the moment. I'm sure it's just a phase but the will to win and fight seems to be missing at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if we drop back to second before hitting another purple patch.

Exactly. Get past Birmingham and regroup. No need to piss the cup and the league this season

I think we got carried away… working out which game we would win the league. Frank knew we would hit a bad patch… so we have. Let’s get through it supporting the team. Maybe we will be battling for 2nd but what a situation to have!! 🩵🩵

We are never going to be in a better position for it going into January!

Lampard has done his job thus far. Now its down to Douglas to provide for him.

Look at Bournemouth’s season in 21-22, it parallels us pretty closely…they strengthened in January and didn’t look back. They had a run of 5 points from 7 at a similar point in the season too, to be clear.

Chins up and get behind the lads to get them over the line

All such fine margins. I don’t think we were awful yesterday and easily could’ve nicked it.

We haven’t had a settled defence for a while which is the foundation of everything. We’re probably back to JDS, Kitch, Bobby and MVE now and that will make a difference. I genuinely believe Lampard would’ve trusted those 4 to play from the back v Ipswich and that game would’ve looked very different.

Anyway, we’re in an unbelievable position. Middlesborough haven’t scored in 7 hours of football. We have a very exciting second half of the season coming up. Enjoy it all! PUSB!

I think those who've been on here for donkeys years will know that I'm one of the most 'glass half full' posters.

However in this situation, I'm starting to feel really nervous. Yes, we're 8 points clear and have had a really tough run of games and I know that we've had a lot of injuries and illness in the camp which hasn't helped.

I think approx 40 years of being a Cov fan has told me not to get too excited until the fat lady is proper belting our her tunes. I was overly optimistic when we were going through that great run in the first 20 games.

We miss BTA too much. I just hope we bring in some reinforcements ASAP so get back on track so that the last 6 games column on the BBC Championship page is full of Green W boxes next our name, rather than the slightly more regular Red Ls and Grey Ds of the last few weeks.

The championship is an utter dogfight. To be where we are without parachute payments is nothing short of a miracle. Its never going to be a cakewalk which is why the complete toys out of pram for a point away at Charlton was so bizarre.

I wanna win every game and get angry or panic when we don't, even though I know it's not realistic!

Well said, Evo.

Totally agree. It's fabulous to see where we are and I think we need to sit back, take a breath and reflect on what we have achieved.

We should all be so proud.

There's an appropriate level of nerves. We're in the best position we've been as a club for 25 years, with an almighty opportunity to get out of this league.

We've started to play in a way that has made me concerned. We haven't just looked a bit unlucky, we have players on the pitch who aren't pulling their weight. We need to be up for a fight if we want to do this, and recently it hasn't looked like it from some individuals, which has me scratching my head.

I hope it will change and we can all relax a bit, but having a go at people concerned is a bit silly (not that this is the same as people having full blown meltdowns). Every time we fuck up, doing a recount and pretending that is fine is not helping my nerves either, it feels nonchalant!

We will win the league.
Ipswich arnt as good as us or as consistant.

We have more ways to win a game than Ipswich do.

Their away form and home form is worse than ours.

Unless their form dramatically improves away from home, they won’t catch us up.

I think Ipswich were always our main automatics contender, and they're starting to pull it together. They do have a few surprise losses in them though.
Middlesborough probably for the play offs along with the likes of Sheffield United and Southampton

Exactly mate. I let a lot of the negativity/panic stations reactions slide as I know we’ve all been through it as fans, but what we’ve done so far this season is unbelievable. Whilst there’s not really been stand out teams, it’s still a very tough league

What is unacceptable though is jumping on certain players backs for underperforming when we don’t know what illness they might have or injuries they’re carrying. I’d imagine all have had to play through something or another recently. Pretty much everyone has played their part in getting us in such a great position so just hoping the fanbase sticks with everyone through this wobble.

Their home form has always been strong minus the one game v Charlton.

If they go and got 50+ points in the remaining games, fair play to them. The only way they catch us is if we drop off.

Despite the December ‘drop off’ our away form is still a lot better than theirs and we’ve had a harder schedule.

Ipswich just have the better match up against us imo, it’s just like the year we battered Fulham home and away despite them running away with the league.

In the worst case scenario and Ipswich do catch us up and overtake us, Boro and the teams below them won’t catch us either. The Top 2 is more or less settled already imo.

We obviously attacked them both games does suit them.

Its interesting as they really do struggle with low block. And they heavily reliant on wingers..still think they need a striker.¹

I think if they buy a decent striker..then i may concede they have better team than us.

I think after the poor Ipswich performance we needed a win against Charlton just to calm the nerves and we nearly got it, even with 6 changes we weren’t far off, the plans always been keep in touch until January then get some help to get us over the line, we’re 10 points clear of 3rd and we’re getting some help in, said we’ll get better and we will

Overall, it wasn’t a bad performance, just scrappy and had it not been for a poor mistake from Brau, we coast to a 1-0 win imo.

4 points from Charlton and Birmingham is a good return so a win on Sunday and all is forgiven. Birmingham look vulnerable atm and that game is t looking as scary for us as it did a month ago. That said, they can also say the same thing because we haven’t won away since Boro. Ipswich, PNE, Southampton and Charlton is a rough stretch of fixtures to be fair.

I think it's about the 'daring to believe', when we were so many points ahead at the top we all started to imagine going up and how that would feel. Now we have had a few points dropped we're all imagining us not going up and it feels worse after dreaming. We might well mess this up and end up in the playoffs. We just have to hope we get a signing or two and start winning again...

We were never going to keep up that early season form of smashing everyone, scoring 3 or 4 goals every week.

And a blip was always inevitable. If this is it, if this is as bad as it gets – then we’re going to be absolutely fine.

We're in a phenomenal position.

Exactly. And we’ve done it without our top scorer, we’ve got one of the best defensive records in the league, people forget that, once we find our scoring boots again we’ll be alrite, barring the 2 Ipswich games the only time we struggle is when we’re forced to rest players, 6 changes yesterday and still nearly won, pretty sure at the end of January we’ll still be top 2 and one of the best squads in the league,

Ipswich in 23/24 won one game from match day 23 to 31. They also got battered by a promotion rival twice (Leeds) and they still held firm.

There’s a lot of parallels between our clubs, Ipswich were expect to be in and around the playoffs, started exceptionally well, spluttered around Xmas, reinforced in Jan and kicked on.

Unlike the 23/24 season where Leicester had a record starting year and Leeds being a historically strong 3rd placed team… this year Ipswich are the chasing parachute payment team and we’ve only got them and maybe Boro to actually worry about. Frankly, Boro’s new manager bounce has already derailed in 6-7 games. They won’t keep up.

And scraped past Oxford at home, we’re probably the only team who let them play exactly how they wanted, they’ll lose a few games yet, and to a lot worse teams than us

We had our moments..goals obviously change games.

Still think it was tactics/formation that cost us. On top of an off day at the office (not having personnnell to change anything 2nd half).

Moved on from Ipswich.

JDS is massive for us
we are so unbalanced without him
His sending off cost us 4 points in effect, and where would we be now with that
Bring him back sunday, with EMC on the left we will beat Blues

He cost us 2 points against Southampton and probably 2 again yesterday as that useless brau had to come on. Shame he was getting lauded as some sort of messiah in the crowd yesterday as he’s cost us big time the last few games with that stupid and unnecessary tackle.

Needs to hit the ground running when he’s back in the team Saturday
