Is anyone still saying we have a good defence?

Funny ain't it, but on the Sky commentary on one game on Monday they said that only Coventry had a better defensive record. The last two games have really buggered up what was a pretty tight defence before that.

I still think we do have a good defence but obviously the stats don't lie. My concern is now around the formation which exposes us, it was massively obvious yesterday as we got to see both. What worried me is the gaps we left when chasing a third goal at 2 2. There was a point in the 2nd half when Southampton were going forward and we had no left guard and I mean NONE.

Perhaps this formation stuff is to blame here as the players have played something so different for so long.

The two games we have won we have not concededand Chris Dunn has played in both and looked good (in my opinion) i am yet to see murphy show why he is number 1 .

said last week that we'd concede double figures over the next 2 games (Southampton & West Ham) and sadly I seriously think we could recieve a hammering from west ham next week. Southampton could of put 6 past us easy yesturday with some better finishing. I don't think the defensive unit is all that bad when all are fit, certinaly good enough for a lower midtable team, but with injuries mouting up and the dreadful midfield infront of them, they don't stand much chance sadly. They are just overwhelmed all the time, which leads to individual errors, Thorn needs to take some blame for the dreadful diamond formation which leaves the full backs exposed all the time.

Ah yes, West Ham. Not a nice thought that, is it? All we have now is hope.

It's not so much as "goals scored against us", it's WHEN they're scored. How many have we let in during the last few minutes of a game - or in time added on? It seems to me that the team sit back too easily, or get too tired when they are a goal up and allow the opponents to come in and demoralise them in the last 5 minutes.

I don't think we can the defense fully. Midfield is poor at the moment and with the likes of Bell and McSheffery in front of young players like Hussey and Christie it's not surprising we leak so many goals as they have no protection and can only absorb pressure for so long. Also, Joe Murphy- dropped a clanger for that last goal yesterday, he's a great shot stopper but still can't see why Dunn doesn't get more chances to prove himself in big matches. Another thing to note, young Jamal Wiseman at right back yesterday looked passionate and energetic, he could be another great prospect coming through our academy.

Any coincidence with the return of McPake?

Surely we defend as a team?

That is where it falls down we are not a good team at this level and dont play as team either. There are a few players playing for themselves resulting in poor decision making

It is unfair to place the blame on the back four and keeper. Recently our more experienced midfield players have gone missing, they dont tackle, they dont close down they dont pass well or quickly they show no passion or commitment. It is left to the likes of Thomas and Bigi to carry there more experienced team mates in there. Given all that is it any surprise that a back four with players out of position concede goals

The back four we ended with had an average age of 20 - cant expect miracles especially when they are left exposed by supposedly better and more experienced players

It's okay though. After 2nd place West Ham we have 4th placed Cardiff. Luckily we have a great recent record against them.

Could be worse, we could be playing third place instead of fourth.

When the board went up for an extra 4 minutes yesterday I just assumed there would be another goal for them, best just to get used to it.

We desperately miss Martin Cranie, and as much as you might not agree, we actually miss Hussey as well.

They love scoring late winners at the Arena in recent seasons.

And we love conceding late goals this season.

Unless were 3-1 up in the 90th minute, I'm fearing the worst (and that of course, assumes we score three goals!)

tbh we weren't too bad (not good Otis) in the first 10 games when we had a settle back four of Christie, Keogh, Cranie and Hussey. Since Cranie's injury we've seemed to have a different back four every game.
