I was there that day stood with my dad on the Spion Kop. Me a small kid with my rattle and no doubt scarf and rosette ! And here we are back to the third division where we were that day. And how ironic we play Wolves tomorrow who we beat on the way up from the second division when we had fifty odd thousand crammed into Highfield Road. I've never been to Sixfields just been to half a dozen away games instead, but even though I still class myself a fan today I long for the games I mentioned.

Me too Rattles. On the Kop as well. With my dad. Happy days. The only hedge I knew of was in front of our house.

Far happier days, the glory of the Sky Blues and Jimmy Hill. I can still see the Hud hammer home the winner. As fans we must have done something wrong somewhere, it was a brief moment in time where anything seemed possible. Now its just so depressing.

You have to take trips down memory lane to keep yourself sane ! Bloke selling rosettes and pin badges outside Highfield Road,Floodlights shining as you walked up to the ground on a night match, kids clicking rattles down the front, their dads smoking fags further up,cigars on Boxing day, music blasting out over the tannoy, and George Hudson banging in goals galore.
Bet they don't get that at Sixfields !

Some Interesting Stats and observations .

That there was a Transfer Deadline day .

That we had the usual post Christmas Slump .

That we kicked off behind everyone Else AGAIN.

The Highest gates in the Midlands for Seven consecutive years .

That Ian Davidson got his bobble Hat knicked .

Things have turned 180 degrees.... So to paraphrase fisher... The club/company must be on the upturn in the cycle!!!!

But then again... You might be right.,,,

just shows what you get if you buy players and not sell every chance you get.

Wasn't the Hud sold as soon as we were promoted?

No, he wasn't. He played all of 64/5 and most of 65/6. He played about another 70 games, scoring at a rate of about 1 goal per 2 games.

I was in the old Covered End for that Colchester game 50 years ago, aged only 10. It was so exciting for all us kids in those days, every home game was a real event, and we used to get there about an hour and a half before kick off to get a decent place.

Sold before we got promoted to the First Division though?

Sid, you're spot on. 'The Hud' scored that sensational goal against Southampton in the Second Div for starters. You had to see it to understand why people keep bringing it up. Pure football magic. And Hudson was a creator as well. Technically a very gifted footballer. Him and Bobby Gould would have been great together.

I'm surprised to hear that as I thought George had high regards for him.
But you never really know what goes on away from us as fans.I was in the Casino a few seasons back stood having a pint at the bar on a legends day,and got chatting to Bill Glazier and I was so in awe of him as he along with Hudson was a hero of mine. Anyway he told me that Hudson was a lazy git who never helped out at the back, and Curtis threatened to chin him if he didn't get back in one game. The Hud told him where to go and as he could handle himself nothing come of it !
