Did I hear this correct on CWR tonight?

50% cut this season!

Not a surprise but why all the bollox from Steve Waggott about having the 7th largest budget?

Not a surprise we don't have a competitive squad

Eakin still living in cloud cuckoo land avoiding the facts that we will be relegated without significant change

I didn't hear, did it say this season? I've heard Pressley say in the past we've had a 50% reduction since he joined (we were around 4-5 million I believe when he first arrived)

It is feasible to cut a budget by 50% and still have the 7th largest in the league.

I'm sure if bristol halved theirs from last season they would still be in the top 2 in this league.

We used to shell pretty much our entire turnover In the Championship, around 10M
Thorne obviously cut It by around half and Pressley has done the same over two Summers
What I find odd Is that we only had possibly five significant earners last year who were let go yet the wage bill Is supposed to be around £300K larger or more If we take out Leons wage for half a season

its so difficult to know as the wage bill is rarely broken down into first team player budget in the acounts. i'm pretty sure waggot said is was c£6m in 2012/13, £4m 2013/14, and £2.7m this season - perhaps they mean its been cut by 50% over 2 years?

This is where I have to come in and comment. A 50% cut could still mean the 7th largest budget in the league.

Yep confusing but I recall him saying £2.5M for last season
I did a ruff calc with Murphy as top earner on £5k
Baker Clark Fleck on £4K
Barton Blair Moussa on £3K
Intermediates like Thomas Jordan C £2K
Kids such as Willis HaynesPhillips about £1K
plus all the short term loans over their various term @£1K
Came in at around £2.2M
discounting out LC 's early exit
We are probably carrying 4-5 more players this season with possibly 4players on a ceiling of £4K
Personally I don't think he should have changed his mind and expanded his squad when we came back
That difference Of £300K min over last season plus having around 5 seniors he hasn't used for most of the season suggests to me we've wasted around £800K
I would have preferred using the windfall of coming back, next season giving us a better chance of holding onto Maddison

When I worked in Birmingham we had a budget every year for training each time we applied for a training course it was declined.
Just because you have a budget doesn't mean you'll use it,however if we had 20 million to spend we'd have a squad of 80 strikers

He definitely said at the SBT open meeting that the wage player wage bill was £2.7m this season.

This reminds me of an account one of my brother in laws told me. Many, many years ago he was mates with a professional footballer. This players team got promoted from Div 4 to Div 3. All year long they were just above the relegation zone and at the death lost out and got relegated. My brother in law said "you must be gutted." The player said "not at all." He went on to explain if they stayed up they would just struggle again. However, playing back in Div 4 they should be able to push for promotion again, and the players would benefit from regular win bonuses.....something they had rarely achieved that season.

Players often view things differently to fans.

I would think the cutbacks need to happen as we have far less money coming in and cuts do probably go across all levels of the football club.
Our squad of players salaries comparitively is far higher up the league than we are achieving currently that is for sure!!

It's the one thing I cling to that they're prepared to fund the club long term, that they haven't cut it.

If they do cut it I might put odds on us not lasting the season

At the moment it's keeping the club going. Wilson and Christie certainly paid for this season, Haynes and Maddison will chip in over the next couple of seasons. Imagine the losses without it. It's about the only part of the club making a profit. I bet Joy would have ten of them and no first team (or stadium) if she could figure out how.
