...they may boost asset value (sh1t, I'm starting to use SISU speak..), but what they also do is give lazy/injury prone b8stards like Bell, McPake, McSheffrey (or however long he has signed for...can't be far off 4 years) and Baker (to a lesser extent) the security of payment for the next 4 years.....

Think about, we're 3 down at half time, Thorny has a right go at them, what do these muppets think? Yeah, nice one AT, still got 3 and half years on my contract, so I'll continue swanning around the pitch putting in half hearted tackles, no crosses and little/no effort.

On the McSheffrey front, sorry all, but I just don't see what the self-styled 'Mr Coventry' does...apparently he's better than Henry...

Totally agree LBB, also I actually fail to see how financially they actually increase your asset value. On the balance sheet they are worthless as, as I understand it, a players value is simply the fee paid for him divided by the number of years of his contract and that is written off over the length of his contract. So as most of their contracts were virtually up their book value is minimal and the kids have no book value as no fees were paid - at Liverpool Gerrard has no book value as he came through the ranks. And if they mean that these are assets to an incoming buyer then I believe they would be classified more as liabilities than assets - dire players on Championship wages who you are now saddled with for four more years and more than likely playing in Div 1 - great business SISU.
As for Sheff - totally agree, complete lazy, worthless, busted flush - talks a good game but offers one spark every three games - simply not good enough. Better than Henry? As long as you mean Henry the Mince Morsels dog food dog (showing my age now!)

I liked Sheff prior to his Blues move...but since he has been back he has done sod all. Sorry, I know that he's local and all that, but he is one of the senior pros who should be coming to the fore.

I met the joker in Leamington a year or so into his Blues move and when i asked if he would ever come back to Cov he replied "Why would I go back there...". Cheers Gary!

Well after he bombed on loan at Forest, Leeds, and had been sent packing by Ipswich...lo and behold, here he is, earning his £7-10k a week....and giving very little in return.

A lot wanted him back though LBB (wasn't one of them).
But as they say never go back once youv'e left (bit like ex's).
He should be leading by example being a local lad and a senior pro and all that but alas another one just taking the money.

Injuries have taken their toll on him, he has definitely lost a yard of pace meaning he can't get away from defenders anymore. To be fair to him he has suffered a few niggly injuries this season which has meant he hasn't been able to put a decent run of games together

Perhaps the reason he's not working so hard because he's carrying a niggling injury? I don't know the answer, although I thought he worked quite hard in the first half against Southampton, and was one of the few that tried to get his foot in.

Perhaps it's because he's a lazy fucker who, like a lot of City youth players from that era, thinks he's owed a living. The guy is a waste of space and to give him an extension typifies everything that is wrong with the ethos of the club. Poor performance rewarded then no cash to keep influential players.

shmmeee...absolutely 100% bang on, my friend.

We slate Bell - rightly so - but I don't see Mr Coventry do any more...

4 year deals should be nailed to the following;
Juke
Clingan
Keogh
Crainie

None of this 'we can't agree terms'...bust a gut to get them...pay d1ckheads like Bell less...and McPake, Stockport's finest and Mr Coventry on "pay as you play" deals, and offer more to 4 named above.

Have we learnt nothing from last year?

I did do a thread about cody a while ago and was asked who is lazier than him and gave a certain coventry fan who plays for us name in reply and was amazed when I did not get an answer back.
He should never have come back end off no-one else wanted him.
However if he did happen to score tomorrow people would be saying the messiah is back what a joke he should have stayed away and definatly should not have been given any kind of extention on anything.
When you think of the players that have left for what ever reason or players who's contracts are coming up and the money wasted on players like sheffs, bell etc is it any wonder that these players might not want to sign when the club is clearly showing it's ambition by giving these below average players new contracts, shit why would someone with a bit of ambition in there playing career want to stay.
