You would have thought they would have learnt with David Bell !!

My guess is that Ince wanted 3 years and they said "no, 2 tops", so he walked away,

They then went to Robins and he said "3 or nothing", they were backed into a corner, as Shaw was the only other final candidate.

There is not a cat in hell's chance they wanted to give ANY manager 3 years.

Another SISU mess !

Yes I reckon that is likely that both managers rejected shorter length contracts

you can imagine Paul Ince spitting out his tea when he saw "Robins joins Coventry on a 3 year deal" pop up on Sky Sports

It will work one of two ways either he is awful and we sack him sometime in the next 12 months costing us a bomb or he will be amazing, get us promoted at least once and SISU will wait till the last minute to offer a new contract by that time he would have already gone to Brum or another 'bigger' club for more money and to get away from our awful owners. Let's at least hope for the second scenario.

if the board have a 3 year plan then it makes sense to employ their man for that period. He wants to implement his ideas right the way through the club, from academy to first team, that shit don't happen overnight.

Three year deals are about standard practice for most managers and players, aren't they?

I think it was the board that insisted on a three year contract.
Everything Fischer/Waggot have been doing points against stabillity. It's a strong signal to everybody, not least the fans: We have a three year plan, the finance to back it and now the manager to lead the players for the entire duration.

ha

if robins gets us safe and to 17th, then says he needs to bring in his own players, they will get rid, anything less than "safe", ie in a relegation fight, they will get rid, they will only keep him after this season if he shows real signs of looking like we are going up either this season, or at worst, NEXT season

He needs to work with them "players" who played last night, against a back drop of something going on behind the scenes.

the 3 year plan thing is bollocks, as was operation premiership and, ccfc on tour etc

when they "Presented their 3 year plan" to SISU, Thorn was at the helm. This is not a 3 year plan for the new manager, this is 3 year plan, plan B, and we are only 8 games in !

Why would we be paying Boothroyd? Any payment to him would have ceased when he took over at Northampton.

could it be that Robins was actually the choice TF and SW wanted ...... and the stuff about Ince is just hearsay?

we might be paying an "lost earnings" if he took a job for less than what he was on with us !

I'm pleased he's been given a 3 year contract as I crave some stability at this club. I guess we'll have to wait and see whether we actually get that...

3 year contract wont create stability

1 year from now, if he's cack, we pay up 2 years of his contract

in the very unlikely event of going up, he will move on (we wont need to worry about this)

Managers compensatiion is minimal, there is only ONE winner out of this, and its Robins

It's a statement of intent though, at least. What would we have been saying if we only gave him a year? "he'll struggle to impose his authority on the team because some players have longer contracts than him" "does the board really have faith they've got the best man" etc..
In reality saying a year would only really mean 9 months. Would he have given up his job elsewhere for a nine month contract?

Who would accept a 1 or 2 year deal? Not very many I'd imagine.

There's not much they could do in this situation. Shaw would probably have taken a 1 year deal...

Agreed

TF & SW have a 3 year plan but if it aint working within 1 year SISU will rip that plan up and bin it

I think it does show signs of stability by giving Robins a 3 year contract.
Unless he does a really bad job, I think sisu will keep him in charge for the long haul as it's going to take time to turn our club around.

Stability really is the key.

Stability through consistency. Whatever anyone thinks of Robins - he's here, for 3yrs (as I doubt the compensation I's affordable) unless poached (= £income)
So - all behind the new man & full steam ahead...we have a league to win!!!

And all the earlier shennanigans about offering Ince 2yrs etc is all irrelevant & maybe pure speculation - who cares? It happens with loads of businesses & positions.

3 years is sensible and I'd be surprised if there weren't clauses that minimised compensation if sacked due to a poor league position and/or if he takes another job after being sacked.

Agree with the point about ince. How do we know he was offered it ? For all we know Robins may have been the one who rejected the job on a shorter contract and negotiated it up to 3 years

Why would they offer one of the first choice candidates a contract of shorter length than that of another of the first choice?! How about the more likely situation that they were offered the same and ince wanted longer.

Glad to hear it Valiant, I ve got skyblue faith in the team under a good manager, never ever thught Thorn would cut it and reckon Robins will give it a good go, who knows. I also think with my skyblue faith that the team has got some very good league 1 players and a potential top goal score in Cody, he just needs to be picked.
Sisu I gave up a long time ago decrying them. Theres no point they are here no one else is.
I go to all home games, quite a few away.always have always will, its the skyblue faith lol pusb

Wouldn't be surprised with some of the boardroom decisions that have happened in the past.
