You could put in this squad to get promotion.
Colin Stein (first player I was mesmerised with ) Mortimer and Robbie Keane. Hypothetical rubbish I know but gets you remembering past class players .

To win promotion ? Be easy to go for the obvious, Hutchie, Keane or Dublin But I would go for Ian Gibson, simply the best.

Leftfield choice but I think Noel Whelan would be excellent in one of the inside forward roles

But these were top division players most would be excellent in division 3. I went for Ian Gibson who started his ccfc life a second division player but thinking about it I f I was looking for a third division ex Sky Blue one I’d go for George Hudson, closely followed by Ronnie Rees,

Weirdly I'd go for a couple of recent players we lost early. Would have loved to see them at their peak for Cov.

Front two of Dublin and Callum Wilson playing off Maddison.

Could go Keane, Dublin and McAllister too

Yeah well that's the sort of role he played in the 97/98 season. Such a talented player, he had his problems but Strachan dumped him when he didn't need to.

I feel like the Gary McAllister/Dion Dublin combo would be great in this league. McAllister took a perfect set piece 99% of the time and Dublin could get on the end of any of them. Both solid penalty takers too.

Even though Whelan is my all time favourite, I'd say Robbie Keane as the third. He would tear defenses apart, especially with Dion nodding the ball on for him to run onto!

I'll take 2 Dion Dublins (one for defence, one for attack) and a Gary McAllister for midfield please.

Keane would be my first choice. May of only been with us less than a year but you only have to see what he did in the rest of his career to say he's arguably the best player to play for us.

Tommy Hutchinson my favourite City player ever. He was my idol as a kid.

Garry McAllister pure quality.

Honourable mentions for Dublin, Yorath, Huckerby and Thompson. Also think Hartson would of proved a better goalscorer than Dublin if he had stayed as long.

Realist choices (ie those that would have joined a 3rd tier club at that point of their career, say aged 25 for the sake of argument - Dublin, Huckerby, Speedie etc. would not).

Ignoring career injuries

Arphexad in goal

Billing, Réda J, Willis, Tony Dobson - defence

Dean Emerson, Claus Jorgensen - midf

Dougie McGuire, Keith Thompson (Garry’s bro) wings

Onandi Lowe (not joking, look at his stats), Zuniga up front.

Picking 3 out of that lot:

Emerson
Lowe
McGuire
