So after yet another season where we've fallen away at the end, I figured I'd do a little research to see just how often this happens...
The below table shows the split of points and league position of the first half of the season compared to the second half since the '83/'84 season (taken from statto.com). I've estimated where we'll finish this season.
Only twice in the last 20 years have we significantly improved in the 2nd half. Once was due to Dennis Wise and the other was Huckerby/Whelan/Dion.
So the reality is it doesn't happen that often
Looking at that I would say the fans that say we always fall away are being dramatic .

What this shows me is since we were relegated in 2001 from the PL and went to playing 46 games this is set to be our highest ever points total in those 15 years?
