I remember that day well.

I wore red socks and had hot dogs for lunch.

Scored against Man U with best and I think charlton in the team in the first game I saw - he died in his forties as well

One of many Scots we had. We sold to Leicester in the mid 70's. Like Craven I think he ended up in the States and also died quite young.

Wow. I didn't realise his goal ratio was so poor. 29 goals in 127 appearances

This was my first season and had just signed Hutchison and Stein. We did really well until we got beat at Wolves in the FA Cup quarter final, from when on we fell apart.

He wasn't an out and out forward though as I remember. Am sure many of those appearances would also be as a sub.

Yes, although he played more defensively for us.

Yeah, he either played more advanced for Palace or had a purple patch of scoring from deeper.

He scored our goal in my first ever game, a 2-1 home defeat against Liverpool in April 1973

tbf although he was no Zidane, I recall he was a good character and served the club well, possibly captained us at times too?

Fairly sure he did, think there was an accusation he was a Milne favourite.
Boo boys, managers favourites, it's not like that today!

Used to hold him as a bit patchy, alright though only 43 when he died.
