Can someone who gets this stuff explain having xA.

Does him having a high xA but low assist count just mean he's doing the right things but his strikers aren't finishing the chances?

So XA is expected assists so for the chances he created he should have higher assists.

Which would indicate he’s doing his bit but his strikers aren’t doing there’s.

As much as Dasilva improved just on the eye test towards the back end of the season, that little graph does not make for good reading. Hopefully Brau is good enough to make the spot his own.

Simms and BTA to the rescue

To be fair he could help their cause I guess. I have a tin eye for this stuff but to me we don't get crosses in early in our current setup. Sakamoto and MvE like to link up and turn defenders before delivering which helps the players arriving later in the box like Rudoni and Torp but can make the most advanced players look a bit static?

If Jobe Bellingham is worth 32M then Rudoni is worth 40M +

Brau is known for his work ethic, defensive reliability, and offensive potential. He has been compared to Dani Carvajal for his potential to develop into a consistent and versatile full-back.

Would be super excited if that said Mendez of Portugal, best full back I have seen in a long while.

Quite excited by this. Our hit rate on overseas players we have targeted ( and others have missed) is very good indeed - Hamer, Torp, MVE, Saka- the “project” players like Bassette and Raphael maybe not so much but these early window deals give you confidence - especially as we always seem to miss out on the domestic players we get linked with.

Slightly different time period and budget. Much higher risk when you looking for very cheap gems that no one else has spotted …..

It’s a common misconception in this fanbase that Jobello was a donkey

He was starting to become an important player for us then did his ACL and by the time he was fit we’d completely changed the set up so there was no place for him in the side

I maintain that Kastaneer was the type of low risk signing that teams should be making as well, even if they don’t work out. He didn’t break the bank, he was easily moved on, everyone gets on with their lives.

These were signings from a very different era- not quite desperation but clearly we had to take some gambles and probably taught the recruitment team a lot about continental players.
We are a lot more purposeful now and the money we have ( although still fairly limited ) has been used really wisely.
Probably Wright doesn’t fit the mould as he was an established player that we paid a premium for- even that may turn out to be good business.

We weren’t working with the football analytics company Statsbomb then SB.

You can see the quality of players since we became exclusive partners with them.

Expect more the come.

Jobello was fine. Was decent when playing the 4-2-3-1 but as you’ve said when we switched to wingbacks and the box midfield. He was done for

Yeah he looked decent until he did his ACL. That coincided with the hammering at Rotherham, and continued poor form until we went to wing backs and the box.

Never looked back since.

Couple of CFs that I like the look of based on looking at their stats and a few clips
Ferran Jutgla (Brugge)
- MPG of 170, in the highest percentiles in per90 for every stat within shooting, possession and what he does with possession I’d encourage you to look at his stats as its really impressive. Now he’d be more of a marquee CF signing so would be the main number 9 and probably mean Wright is out the door but if he came in I would not complain at all.
Myron Boadu (Monaco)
- Was considered a top top talent when he was a youngster breaking through at AZ enough for Monaco to splash the cash on him, hasnt really progressed anywhere near as much as thought but has the raw attributes to make a top CF, 48.7% aerial duels won, 0.95 dribbles per 90 alongside his shooting stats this season in the Bundesliga show that he can be molded and at 24 he’s still at a good age to bring it out of him.
Matheus Saldanha (Ferencvaros)
- Tall Brazilian CF who is both good in the air and also on the deck, high dribbling and duelling numbers shows he’s a battler and he gets into some good positions to score goals, is also a free kick magnet whether giving them away or winning them and can also play as a RW.
Dion Beljo (Rapid Wien)
- a giant CF standing at 6ft5, the croat has scored quite a few goals this season and has put up impressive stats elsewhere such as in aerial duels almost 60% win rate he not only takes chances he creates them as well.
Erik Kojzek (Wolfsberger)
- put up some really impressive numbers off the bench this season scoring 8 goals and registering 3 assists another giant but this time isnt good in the air and is good on the deck at 19 he’s still really raw but like Bassette can be molded.

Iirc we had a bit of a wobble when he got injured, spanked at Rotherham then lost to Tranmere in the two tone kit game and that is what inspired the formation change

To this day that Tranmere game was a travesty. How we lost that game I’ll never know.

didn’t we change to the box halfway through Fleetwood away?

iirc - Rotherham away was the only game that season we deserved to lose. I still blame O’Hare for diving agaisnt Shrewsbury and giving the ball away

or was that just when we went 3 at the back, it was 3-4-1-2 until we ran out of strikers apart from godden?
