We got play offs last game of the season, to have a proper go you need to be around the top 3 or 4 all season, consistently good, Sunderland got it spot on, just cruised through the last few games And rested everyone, if we don’t add at least a CF we’ll be the same again, I know it was only a dodgy back pass that done us but teams in 5th or 6th don’t normally go upWe had a proper go at it last year, we lost in the last minute of a play off final second leg. What does having a go at it really mean?

People just say cliches without thinking about the tripe they are coming out withWe had a proper go at it last year, we lost in the last minute of a play off final second leg. What does having a go at it really mean?
Not starting badly for starters. We had a proper go at it last year, we lost in the last minute of a play off final second leg. What does having a go at it really mean?
Despite their start they ended up in the same place yeah? Not starting badly for starters.
Sunderland were nothing special last season but had momentum with the results. They could then take their foot off the gas when they knew they were 4th.
Great, so if we have a proper go we can finish 3rd and lose in the play offs rather than not finishing 3rd but somehow winning themWe got play offs last game of the season, to have a proper go you need to be around the top 3 or 4 all season, consistently good, Sunderland got it spot on, just cruised through the last few games And rested everyone, if we don’t add at least a CF we’ll be the same again, I know it was only a dodgy back pass that done us but teams in 5th or 6th don’t normally go up
Yes, that’s obviously what I meanGreat, so if we have a proper go we can finish 3rd and lose in the play offs rather than not finishing 3rd but somehow winning them
Explain it thenYes, that’s obviously what I mean
I mean it’s quite clear, if we’re going to have a proper go we need a bit more quality than what we’ve got, sneaking the play offs every season and crossing your fingers we make it isn’t the way, we need to be competing up there all season, finishing 3rd or 4th gives you that edge, if were going to be serious about it then it’s not with simms and assante firing blanks,Explain it then
So all our recent success in the last three seasons has been a fluke cause we've "sneaked" into two playoffs ?I mean it’s quite clear, if we’re going to have a proper go we need a bit more quality than what we’ve got, sneaking the play offs every season and crossing your fingers we make it isn’t the way, we need to be competing up there all season, finishing 3rd or 4th gives you that edge, if were going to be serious about it then it’s not with simms and assante firing blanks,
Said nothing like that, your words, we’ve done brilliant to finish where we have with the squads we’ve had, to go that one step further we need a bit more, that’s all, unless we add a couple more this season it’ll be the same again, we’ll come up short, can’t keep just sneaking a play of spot, that’s obviousSo all our recent success in the last three seasons has been a fluke cause we've "sneaked" into two playoffs ?
You don't sneak anything over a 46 game season , that's just ridiculous. And I agree another 2/3 players either on loan or permanent make us more competitive but it's no guarantee eitherSaid nothing like that, your words, we’ve done brilliant to finish where we have with the squads we’ve had, to go that one step further we need a bit more, that’s all, unless we add a couple more this season it’ll be the same again, we’ll come up short, can’t keep just sneaking a play of spot, that’s obvious
You only have to get there again, why would you spend more to get to the same place? It is irrelevant if you finish 3rd or 6thSaid nothing like that, your words, we’ve done brilliant to finish where we have with the squads we’ve had, to go that one step further we need a bit more, that’s all, unless we add a couple more this season it’ll be the same again, we’ll come up short, can’t keep just sneaking a play of spot, that’s obvious
Since I mention the first one, I don’t think you can argue it’s the same system when we changed the manager. There is some real drivel becoming fact on recent threads
Our strikers don't suit our system .....that's despite the last two successful seasons with the same system and same strikers
We have to have a real go this season .....yeah cause we start every season determined to do badly
We need an upgrade on player A , player B ......that's despite recent successful seasons
My personal view is business has been good and in areas that needed more depth , we do need an upgrade on Lati if Perry is an option . And I still think we will loan in 1/2 players for attacking areas .
Our squad isn't as bad as is portrayed by some . If we can keep players fit and others regain confidence then there is no reason we can't be in the mix again . Wouldn't mind losing Bidwell,BTA and Allen if it freed up wages for these loanees and opened up opportunities for the likes of Andrews
Ok maybe sneak isn’t the word but wev’e got in on the last game of the season twice which considering the starts we’ve had isn’t bad, we just need something more, but you get what I mean, finishing 3rd or 4th def Helps, if that second leg was at ours we’d of gone throughYou don't sneak anything over a 46 game season , that's just ridiculous. And I agree another 2/3 players either on loan or permanent make us more competitive but it's no guarantee either
Like I said I hope certain players can regain form or confidence or both as someone like Simms can score goals at this level and is decent backup for WrightSince I mention the first one, I don’t think you can argue it’s the same system when we changed the manager.
If you look at the games we’ve played the 4-3-3 can you think of that many decent performances from our strikers, for me maybe Sunderland in the league but that’s it. Although maybe this is more the midfielders being a bit more conservative in their passing unlike Torp for example.
Still a very good squad which I’d back to have a good season but do think a centre back to replace Binks, some competition for Sakamoto and a striker and I think we’d have a very good chance.
Course they could but I don’t think we play to Simms strengths.Like I said I hope certain players can regain form or confidence or both as someone like Simms can score goals at this level and is decent backup for Wright
I'm with you I would play both Rudoni and Torp as they look to play the ball early . And yes I think this would benefit Simms as he's always been a better finisher when he doesn't have to think about it or when the ball is in front of him rather than his back to goalCourse they could but I don’t think we play to Simms strengths.
Over this preseason I’ve seen him call for a through ball only to watch us pass back or to the wings instead. All our strikers imo thrive on being more direct but we seem resistant to play those balls under Lampard for whatever reason..
I think it’s a big reason him and BTA were doing well in the 5-3-2
It would be nice for the squad to actually be ready for the start, just once, is that too much too expect.
waffle
I think by the end of the window it will be a lot closer to being finished than it has been in recent seasonsWe've got cover except LW until Haji's fit. It could be stronger, but it's ready. No squad's ever 'finished'.
It's like a house. You don't notice the masonry around the door is a bit sh*t until you put the new door in.
Bling will be using that one on the last day when we sell Rudoni and don’t replace himKai Andrews is like a new signing.

At least Doug will have £30m in the bankAt least we will have £30m in the bank
We were fifth in early MarchWe got play offs last game of the season, to have a proper go you need to be around the top 3 or 4 all season, consistently good, Sunderland got it spot on, just cruised through the last few games And rested everyone, if we don’t add at least a CF we’ll be the same again, I know it was only a dodgy back pass that done us but teams in 5th or 6th don’t normally go up
We weren't quite as sneaky in March thoughWe were fifth in early March
Teams don't sneak into play off positions. It's the culmination of a season of games.I mean it’s quite clear, if we’re going to have a proper go we need a bit more quality than what we’ve got, sneaking the play offs every season and crossing your fingers we make it isn’t the way, we need to be competing up there all season, finishing 3rd or 4th gives you that edge, if were going to be serious about it then it’s not with simms and assante firing blanks,

Well according to some we start the season on 15 points after signing RushworthOnly one team in the last 10 years has finished below 4th and got promoted
You get 80+ points in the league and you significantly increase the chance of promotion
We’ve not even hit 70…
So what? Our form in 2025 was generally consistent with 4thOnly one team in the last 10 years has finished below 4th and got promoted

£30m less whatever a skiing holiday costsAt least Doug will have £30m in the bank
