Stronger midfield, more experienced goalkeeper. Two good right backs. We're ahead of where we were this time last season. We've also got the improvement in some players over 12 months too. We’re about where we were last season at the moment. Seems the rumours about Doug’s money drying up were true. Doubt we’ll see anything without MvE or Wright leaving. And wouldn’t be surprised if either happens too late to do anything.

No he isn'tWe’ve got decline too. Simms is worse than he was this time last year for a start.
Think we’ll be very lucky to go up with this squad tbh.
No he isn't
Why don’t we just wait until the season starts before giving up on any player?Yeah he is. He declined last season. Not the point though. We’re no better than last year overall and may still be weakened further. I’d hoped for more with the season starting soon. Never like doing business late August. Still hope we can do some business to improve the first team.

Lampard was asked about signing a striker and his answer suggested ‘no’ and given the Bassette rumours, it’s revealing.
If you’re King, you’d be putting the onus on a manger to work with Haji and 2 players who surpassed double figures in 23/24 and getting to hit that form again… Most clubs in this league would snap your hand for that.
When a player massively underperform their xG, it’s easy to write them off as useless, as is the case with Simms currently. Before writing him off, bear in mind Rudoni was in the Top 5 under performers in this metric in 23/24, which is why Huddersfield laughed at us for paying £5m for him: IIRC, Rudoni’s xG was more of less the same last season as in 23/24.
I don't think that's right, it's not like a calf strain or a troublesome hamstring that keeps recurring, one was a twisted ankle could happen to anyone anytime, now we're hearing tendonitis, Achilles trouble?Wright is injury prone and we won’t get a season out of him. We need a quality signing up front.
I'm not sure how anyone is left satisfied watching him. I was a long time defender of his but eventually you just have to accept what's in front of your eyes surely?Im writing him off because he’s crap at football and doesn’t look bothered. His xG could be 99 for all I care I can’t do another season watching him, I’ll go spare.
He's like the Audley Harrison of football isn't he - talent and attributes, just seems psychologically unable to use them. He should bic all his hair off and go for the hard look!Simms has seemingly all the attributes to be a top striker. Tall with an imposing physique, and whilst not having electric pace is no slouch. And yet his body language is terrible and certainly does him no favours. If he was to score a worldly, you feel rather than celebrate he would go around apologizing to the opposition.
As many have commented his first touch is woeful, and the ball travels faster than his shots. He is easily knocked off the ball, and seems to easily get bullied by far smaller players. He often seems to struggle to make a clean contact with the ball, and regularly seems to scuff his shots. His confidence seems shot to pieces, and near the end of last season he never really even looked like scoring. He truly is an enigma, like many i had high hopes when we signed him, but i think time is fast running out for him, many have already given up on him.

I also spent a long time defending him because he has all the attributes needed to be a top striker and could see why the scouts/manager wanted to take a punt on him.I'm not sure how anyone is left satisfied watching him. I was a long time defender of his but eventually you just have to accept what's in front of your eyes surely?
Apparently Toffolo's off to the MLS. Still think that would be a very clear and obvious Bidwell upgrade for not much money. So what is the ideal remaining ins? To me it looks something like..
1.Left CB
2.Quality striker
3.Right Forward competition
4.Recycle one of our more mediocre CMs for something a bit different.
I'm also slightly concerned about our LB situation still if Bidwell is starting in what was possibly considered a strongest 11, but I think that is what it is now.
For me I still think we'll get 3 of the above done, with outgoings also, of course.
In an ideal world shipping out Bidwell and Dasilva for Toffolo and Brau would be perfect.Apparently Toffolo's off to the MLS. Still think that would be a very clear and obvious Bidwell upgrade for not much money.

A whole load of clubs would take Bidwell on a free I'm sure, if holding out for a fee is the issue then Dougie needs to get over itIn an ideal world shipping out Bidwell and Dasilva for Toffolo and Brau would be perfect.
I suspect we're seeing fewer outs than expected so far as Doug has a set price in mind for every player and they won't leave until that's met. That's how we managed to blag a profit on Binks.
Hopefully as we get closer to the end of the window and options run out we'll see more teams get desperate and pay what we're after.
I suspect that's related to the injury and all the strengthening work. He came back "too quickly"I don't think that's right, it's not like a calf strain or a troublesome hamstring that keeps recurring, one was a twisted ankle could happen to anyone anytime, now we're hearing tendonitis, Achilles trouble?
Based on last season He had 44 appearances in his first season
We gambled on bringing him back too soon for the play offs and it was a gamble worth taking as he is the best finisher and penalty taker at the club.
I'm not sure how anyone is left satisfied watching him. I was a long time defender of his but eventually you just have to accept what's in front of your eyes surely?
Not saying it wasn’t worth the gamble as none of our forwards were getting goals anyway. But it doesn’t take away from the fact we need another dynamic forward player as Simms and BTA are just not good enough.

A lot of that was against much weaker sides (I know not all). He seems to need that extra time and space to compensate his heavy touch. He looks much better running on to the ball so would maybe suit a side play long on the break much more. I think he needs a move for his own good, he's a good lad.I’ve had enough of Simms and would be happy to sell him for a couple of million, the trouble is there is always that nagging second half of the first season where he was brilliant. I think back to Huddersfield away. It’s what makes it all the more frustrating.
So does Wright. Both signed on the naive assumption that Hamer was staying and could provide that type of supplyA lot of that was against much weaker sides (I know not all). It isn't. But August is only hours awayIt’s not the start of August yet
I don't know what the rush to get rid of Bidwell is all about. Yes we can do better but as a squad member he is ideal. Trains hard and never complains. Always ready to slot in when needed. Just like JDS yesterday. He had a decent game against a quality side but it won't be long before the knives are out for him.A whole load of clubs would take Bidwell on a free I'm sure, if holding out for a fee is the issue then Dougie needs to get over it

That is how we played with Vik certainly and it's a tactic that seems to suit Forest in the PL. I'm not sure that anyone really thought that Hamer was staying though. So does Wright. Both signed on the naive assumption that Hamer was staying and could provide that type of supply
His sharp downturn in the second half of the season tells me his age is catching up with him. A player like Toffolo offers similar other qualities but still nearer to his prime.I don't know what the rush to get rid of Bidwell is all about. Some people on here are more interested in trying to prove others wrong than being realistic about our situation.Look at our last three signings; Grimes, KHH, Rushworth. I mean FFS if people can’t be happy with that I give up

There is zero evidence for thisSo does Wright. Both signed on the naive assumption that Hamer was staying and could provide that type of supply
I certainly don't disagree. But as a squad player he isn't the bad option that some make out. My guess would be one more season with us. His experience could be crucial. His sharp downturn in the second half of the season tells me his age is catching up with him.
