We’re about where we were last season at the moment. Seems the rumours about Doug’s money drying up were true. Doubt we’ll see anything without MvE or Wright leaving. And wouldn’t be surprised if either happens too late to do anything.

Stronger midfield, more experienced goalkeeper. Two good right backs. We're ahead of where we were this time last season. We've also got the improvement in some players over 12 months too.

We’ve got decline too. Simms is worse than he was this time last year for a start.

Think we’ll be very lucky to go up with this squad tbh.

Yeah he is. He declined last season. Not the point though. We’re no better than last year overall and may still be weakened further. I’d hoped for more with the season starting soon. Never like doing business late August. Still hope we can do some business to improve the first team.

Why don’t we just wait until the season starts before giving up on any player?

Lampard was asked about signing a striker and his answer suggested ‘no’ and given the Bassette rumours, it’s revealing.

If you’re King, you’d be putting the onus on a manger to work with Haji and 2 players who surpassed double figures in 23/24 and getting to hit that form again… Most clubs in this league would snap your hand for that.

When a player massively underperform their xG, it’s easy to write them off as useless, as is the case with Simms currently. Before writing him off, bear in mind Rudoni was in the Top 5 under performers in this metric in 23/24, which is why Huddersfield laughed at us for paying £5m for him: IIRC, Rudoni’s xG was more of less the same last season as in 23/24.

Im writing him off because he’s crap at football and doesn’t look bothered. His xG could be 99 for all I care I can’t do another season watching him, I’ll go spare.

Simms has seemingly all the attributes to be a top striker. Tall with an imposing physique, and whilst not having electric pace is no slouch. And yet his body language is terrible and certainly does him no favours. If he was to score a worldly, you feel rather than celebrate he would go around apologizing to the opposition.
As many have commented his first touch is woeful, and the ball travels faster than his shots. He is easily knocked off the ball, and seems to easily get bullied by far smaller players. He often seems to struggle to make a clean contact with the ball, and regularly seems to scuff his shots. His confidence seems shot to pieces, and near the end of last season he never really even looked like scoring. He truly is an enigma, like many i had high hopes when we signed him, but i think time is fast running out for him, many have already given up on him.

I'm not sure how anyone is left satisfied watching him. I was a long time defender of his but eventually you just have to accept what's in front of your eyes surely?

So what is the ideal remaining ins? To me it looks something like..

1.Left CB
2.Quality striker
3.Right Forward competition
4.Recycle one of our more mediocre CMs for something a bit different.
I'm also slightly concerned about our LB situation still if Bidwell is starting in what was possibly considered a strongest 11, but I think that is what it is now.

For me I still think we'll get 3 of the above done, with outgoings also, of course.

We just put in a half decent performance against a top 6, European finalist team. Yes we need a couple of players, as Lampard said some areas we are covered and some we are not. I think we will see a striker and a centre half come in

I also spent a long time defending him because he has all the attributes needed to be a top striker and could see why the scouts/manager wanted to take a punt on him.

It's been too long now though and it's the thing between his ears that needs working on and only Ellis can do that.

I suspect we'll see a lot of him this season and that could turn wins into draws.

Apparently Toffolo's off to the MLS. Still think that would be a very clear and obvious Bidwell upgrade for not much money.

In an ideal world shipping out Bidwell and Dasilva for Toffolo and Brau would be perfect.

I suspect we're seeing fewer outs than expected so far as Doug has a set price in mind for every player and they won't leave until that's met. That's how we managed to blag a profit on Binks.

Hopefully as we get closer to the end of the window and options run out we'll see more teams get desperate and pay what we're after.

Based on last season He had 44 appearances in his first season

We gambled on bringing him back too soon for the play offs and it was a gamble worth taking as he is the best finisher and penalty taker at the club.

Not saying it wasn’t worth the gamble as none of our forwards were getting goals anyway. But it doesn’t take away from the fact we need another dynamic forward player as Simms and BTA are just not good enough.

I’ve had enough of Simms and would be happy to sell him for a couple of million, the trouble is there is always that nagging second half of the first season where he was brilliant. I think back to Huddersfield away. It’s what makes it all the more frustrating.

I agree. I really think we need a more solid option. Simms just looks lost to me. He doesn’t really seem to know his job and it’s all a bit aimless . BTA puts a shift in always but doesn’t have much quality. It’s 2 very average options at best

Soot on. I’ve reserve judgements on the team, transfer window and individual players until the seasons underway and window closes. I hoped fans would give current players at least the pre season under new coaching/management but maybe not

Lampard will knows what we need, kings spent some cash but guessing we’re probably waiting on one or two outgoings before further ‘big’ signings. It’s the right way to run a club if you’re planning on a longer term vision…we need to know what cash we’ve got available rather than just plugging in anyone. Some on here would’ve bust the club within a year of ownership or would’ve been rushing through a Matty James transfer (we waited on got grimes). Others were calling for relegation a few games into last year.

Look at our last three signings; Grimes, KHH, Rushworth. I mean FFS if people can’t be happy with that I give up

A lot of that was against much weaker sides (I know not all). He seems to need that extra time and space to compensate his heavy touch. He looks much better running on to the ball so would maybe suit a side play long on the break much more. I think he needs a move for his own good, he's a good lad.

So does Wright. Both signed on the naive assumption that Hamer was staying and could provide that type of supply

I don't know what the rush to get rid of Bidwell is all about. Yes we can do better but as a squad member he is ideal. Trains hard and never complains. Always ready to slot in when needed. Just like JDS yesterday. He had a decent game against a quality side but it won't be long before the knives are out for him.

His sharp downturn in the second half of the season tells me his age is catching up with him. A player like Toffolo offers similar other qualities but still nearer to his prime.

Some people on here are more interested in trying to prove others wrong than being realistic about our situation.

Yes 3 very good players. Rushworth will be worth a fair few points against Wilson and Collins. Grimes runs the show and has an eye and ability for a defence splitting pass. KKH is another quality signing and we will see what plans Lampard has for him.

Yesterday showed how far we've come since Lampard and his backroom staff took over. You knew once they started rolling around like they'd been shot at the slightest bit of wind catching them that they weren't just treating it like a friendly. That's a big complement to our side.

Think an ideal window for me looks something like:

OUT:
Collins
Bidwell
Alllen
Simms
BTA
Sheaf or Eccles

IN:
No.1 CB
Starting calibre CM
RW who carries more goal threat than Saka
ST who can push Wright
LW who can push EMC

LOAN OUT:
Perry
Obikwu
Bassette

I certainly don't disagree. But as a squad player he isn't the bad option that some make out. My guess would be one more season with us. His experience could be crucial.
