EMC was fantastic for Peterborough and I was really excited to see what he could do for us. I thought he performed ok in his first season at this level. Could have easily chalked up a few more goals too. The stats show he performs to a very similar standard as Wright and IIRC even got more assists than him.

Big season coming up for us both, If he stays fit as first choice, I could easily see him get similar figures to what Rudoni did this year.

Big season coming up for EMC but I don't think it's a big season for you

It’s not his fault obviously, but given EMC was loaned back to Peterborough and spent much of last season injured, to have only started 18 league games for us in the year and a half since he joined has been a big letdown.

The assist put over for the Rudoni header was possibly one of the highlights of the season. For anyone in Sky-blue

Bidwell the next to go for me! Brilliant servant to the club and been a really good signing in terms of value for money and commitment. If Dasilva can carry on his form from last year, then it’s his shirt to lose and Brau will have to work hard to get his place.

Coventry City are looking to refine their squad for the upcoming season, and that could see Norman Bassette head for pastures new.

Most of which under Lampard. Until he came in he'd only started 5 games - I'm fairly sure most or at least some of which being in unfamiliar positions.

There's quite a sizeable lack of context issue when it comes to fans critiquing EMC's season last season.

If Robins wasn't going to play him as a LW on a consistent basis (from memory he was also played on the right and centrally at times) I don't really understand why he was brought in, in the first place.

Although I'm glad he's here now as I genuinely think he could be a real asset to us.

I don't see the clamour to bomb Bassette out, I am not saying he is going to follow the same path but many would have fobbed Vik off after his loan spell but look how he turned out

He is 20 years old, very raw and nowhere near the finished article but there is a bit of talent there - However he does need to snap out of his petulant diva attitude, flapping his arms about etc. and as much as it was funny to piss Chris Wilder off on reflection I wish the winking episode hadn't have happened

1 year loan. Perfect. We must have some players lined up as Lampard didn't seem to fancy Simms or BTA last season and Haji is injured.

Bassette seemed to get worse the longer the season went on. Some of his cameos at the end of last season were unbelievably bad. Loan definitely the best for him but wouldn’t be overly surprised if we decide we’re happy to let him leave.

This summer has been a bit disappointing so far to be honest. I suppose it’s the nature of the beast when we have to move players on to be able to bring anyone in but was expecting Lampard to have a bit more freedom to shape the squad in his image. Still weak at centre back, up-front and lacking depth on the wings for me. Our squad is still good, and I would expect us to have enough as it stands to make a decent enough start, but would like to see a fair bit more business done if we’re looking to challenge at the top end of the division throughout the whole season.

Don't understand a loan with an option to buy. If he's shit they won't take it and we're stuck with an asset of lower value than what we got it for, if he does really well they potentially get him on the cheap.
Don't see how that option benefits us.

Agreed. Either sell him now or just agree to a straight loan. I fail to see how it's of any benefit to us to opt for an option to buy.

You can generally see if someone can play or not in the first few minutes, touch, pass, tricks and intelligence. Limitations become more apparent with time, particularly as the opposition learn more about them and they've been kicked around a bit. He's a solid enough Championship player to my eye (obviously when fit and playing in position) but it's unclear that he's got anything much more in his locker. I do like his strength and bravery. Better than, say, Gilo?

Two sides that need to be interested though. Also are options a guarantee or just an option? I’d have thought it’s less specific and binding than an obligation to buy.

Yeh that's what I mean as I believe an option is just that, an option. I'd rather it be an obligation so it's just a done piece of business that's confirmed even if he flops.

Option to buy is not as useful as obligation to buy from the selling clubs perspective.

Option to buy is good for the buying club if the fee agreed is lower than you think it might be at the end of the loan …

Yeh that's what I said haha
Imo you either sell or do a loan with obligation if that's not possible or you commit to saying we believe in this players ability to develop and just do a straight loan.
Loan with an option is the worst option available from our point of view with no benefit.

I suspect you extract a higher loan fee if you give an option to buy.

Same reason why Man City would do the same for us with someone like Callum Doyle. If it’s a player you’re open to selling then you offer the buying team some flexibility and leave yourself other ways to benefit in the future from buyback clauses/sell-ons etc

Always rated Woolfenden, he's a solid Championship defender but I don't think he's as good as Doyle but of course that's just my own personal view. I know living in Suffolk and keeping an eye on Ipswich as such that he is a popular player with the fans, local boy as well, so I think it will need to be a good offer to prise him away from Ipswich.

There's definitely legs in the Bassette to Utrecht rumours. Absolutely desperate for a striker at the moment having just had to play David Min in the Europa League qualification last week against FC Sheriff. There isn't that much money to go around, but they are a bit like us from previous years with their business model.

Can see a deal working out here, and as I mentioned in the other thread, I think he would get some decent game time.

I doubt Man City would do an option for us. Obligation upon promotion perhaps.

@Mucca Mad Boys don’t you think a new number 9 would thrive from the delivery from Sakamoto like Rudoni does?

There’s no argument that his crossing and assists are great assets… The way a lot of people talk about Sakamoto as being an undisputed starter and whilst he’s a good player, he doesn’t have that ‘x factor’ to be a game winner for us, week in and week out.

Again, all this focus on strikers/LWers… when both Haji and EMC are objectively better players than Sakamoto is baffling to me.

There are plenty of wingers in this league who are frankly better players than Sakamoto.

I don’t think Woolfenden is going to cost us anywhere near the amount quoted for Doyle. As much as he’s a talented player, £10m for Doyle feels inflated for where we’re at, I’d feel more comfortable signing 2-3 players with that money.

Doyle started for one of the few defences that conceded more goals than us and we really need to improve our defensive record if we’re improving on 5th place.

This transfer window so far has been so underwelming. Thought would really kick on and do some exciting business but still lack so many positions. Hopefully the uplift in the coaching this year shows

Over a month to go. We've brought in KKH and sold Binks. Great bit of business for a spend of just £1m.

I'd prefer to do it this way than throw money around like confetti as clubs like Wrexham have done.

Bassette is yet to touch the ball once for Belgium and hasn’t featured in a single squad since he was called up last minute. What appears to be a glorified work experience placement is doing an awful let of legwork in justifying what kind of potential he has.

Yeah it was explained at the time that they had a last minute injury. Their u21s had an important game so they called up a bench player from the 21s to make up the numbers rather than taking one of the 21s' better players away from their important match.

So it's not even like he was called up for being the best striker in the u21s, he was called up for being the weakest in the 21s!
