8 goals in 4 seasons !!!!

He’s had a horrendous injury record and who knows if he will ever be the same player, but to put him in the same category as Bassette is barmy.

Difference is Brewster was a key player in the England U17 World Cup winning team. There is absolutely more potential than Simms. Sheff Utd aren’t known for playing the type of football that would suit these types of players, and he did alright whilst on loan at Swansea

there’s obviously a risk that he doesn’t kick on and he’s just run of the mill, but is less of a risk that paying money for the Belgian lad who’s a bit of an unknown quality.

He's had 1 good half a season in mens football. He's 25.

Wait and see, one's done fuck all despite once costing a fortune, the other is a 20 year old with bags of potential.

I would be pleasantly surprised if Bassette has scored the same number of Championship goals as Brewster by the time he reaches the same age.

So you'd be "pleasantly suprised" if Bassette scores16 goals in the next 5 years

Hardly a challenge he's going to lose sleep over.

In fact I'd say Bobby Thomas will beat Brewster's record.

The whole England u17 thing with Brewster is always brought up. Look where the players from that final team are now in comparison. Foden, Sancho, Morgan gibbs white, Guehi etc. Even Lati was at CB

The much maligned Ellis Simms has scored twice as many goals as Brewster despite being younger.

Bobby Thomas has outscored Brewster over the last 4 years.

Our own Justin Obikwu scored more goals last year on loan (granted not championship) than Brewster has scored in the last 5 years.
And that's despite surviving a car crash that stopped him mid season.

Seriously, I know it's hot outside, but people need to give their heads a fucking big wobble.

That makes no difference, unless it's an elite manager in the PL or it's equivalent abroad.d

Brewster is not very good and didn't Shef Utd pay £20 million plus for him?

There’s no way we let Wright go for £10m. An international, on a long contract, good age profile and a proven 20 goal striker. We should be busting a gut to retain. But if we can’t it’s got to be 15-20m

Again, he's never scored 20 in a season in his career.

Don’t be a pedant … he got 19 goals the season before last and I have no doubt would have got 20 had he stayed fit all last season. The point @Cally Fedora makes is a fair one.

Maybe after pre season and 1/4 of the season then we'll discuss this.

Wright played 44 league games 23/24 so only missed the 2 league games. Are we saying Simms is also a proven 20 goal a season striker as he also got 19? 19 isn't 20 in anyone's book.

Simms is supposedly a terrible player but the alternatives mooted are Carlton Morris, Keiffer Moore and now Rhian Brewster.

Only played 119 games in 5 years because of constant injuries. He makes Sheaf look an ever present. Got offered a new contract but on reduced terms which he rejected. So looks like he is after another big contract. Can see him going somewhere like Sunderland.

Bassette will be 21 years old this year. By that point in his career, Brewster had scored 10 Championship goals in one season, and then played a full season in the Premier League. Norm has a lot of catching up to do.

Brewster has only scored 20 goals in his whole career. That's not a lot of catching up to do.

He had a little purple patch for half a season on loan at Swansea where he scored half of his entire career goals. since then he's done fuck all. He had a whole season in the Premier league and didn't manage a single goal, not even a cup goal, (even Simms has a premier league goal to his name)

Seriously, he ain't even fit to lace Simms's boots.

It's pointless arguing about it, it ain't happening, we arnt that stupid.

You can see Bassette has the attributes to become a great player.

Plays with aggression which is something that certain modern strikers lack, and has such a good work rate when pressing. Improve his finishing and ball control and there's no doubt he will be a prem player in a few years time, and hopefully be with us up there!

I'd say he looks a little like Vardy when he was first developing, but I'll leave that to the experts..

I beg to differ, it shows that different players mature at different ages.
Someone above mentioned that Brewster scored plenty at England U17 level, but in his case that hasn't resulted in him being prolific in mens football.
Maybe he was strong and quick for his age?

I'll wager with anyone that Bassette will have scored more goals than Brewster has by the time hes 25

I really don’t see these attributes at all, great is a strong word.

I think he’s been a poor signing personally so far, although granted needs another season

Definitely feel a loan will show us what he's capable of.

Think Lampard wants to see him show himself this pre season. Still young so plenty of time to develop.

Bassette has the needed attributes. He just needs to be coached into the best ways of improving. Do you remember when we signed Gyokeres and how many people thought it was a waste of £1m? Even Brighton didn't have a clue they sold someone who would become one of the best strikers in the world so cheaply and they're one of the best clubs at bringing in players and improving them.

We have a great coaching team. Let's see how he improves this season before we write him off.

Needs to go out on loan for a season before we start talking about him playing and scoring in the PL.
