Who thought Brau would be straight in the side? Even players used to the speed of the Championship normally take time to settle in. Look at the difference this season of a squad that understand the system we play and how each other play.

I can only think of Grimes that slotted straight in and was good from the start and we've signed a lot of players in recent years. We have Woolfenden and KKH that would walk into most sides having to wait for their chance and they're a lot more ready than Brau.

Enormous cope. He’ll be gone in the summer I reckon.

Just go read the Sunderland forum from this time last year. We’re doing well but the tough bit hasn’t started yet and we will need reinforcements if we want to stay competitive all season.

Of course but we need quality over quantity. It's easy to say we need this position or that position covered but it isn't easy to get the players we need for a decent price. And we don't want to waste money on players not better than we already have waiting for their chance.

We will see. Lampard and his coaching team have done an excellent job so far. Brau has at least until the end of the season to show enough improvement. If we get promoted it could easily be a step too far for him. But we can only guess because we don't get to see him most days like those making the decisions do.

I didn't really think Brau would slot straight into the side - as with the vast majority of foreign players coming in there's inevitably going to be a settling in period which can take X amount of time so it would've been unrealistic to demand he hits the ground running straight away.

Dasilva is also clearly well thought of by Lampard so displacing him was always going to be difficult unless you're bringing in a LB which is vastly superior to him.

But pretty much all of the overseas players recruited in recent years aside have featured regularly in some shape or form either by starting or coming off the bench.

Re. your last point, the difference is, certainly in KHH's case (Wolfenden is a difficult example to use as displacing in form CBs is incredibly difficult at the best of times plus they're the least likely to be subbed in game besides a GK), he's still getting regular minutes week in week out. Not to mention he also has in front of him one of the best right backs in the league.

Like I said it just seems strange. Bidwell really was coming to the end of his time here with us and yet it's almost like (similar to under Robins a few times) he's had to be called back into action.

When Lampard got the job, he said one of the reasons he wanted to come here was the quality of our squad. At the time, that seemed like positive sound bytes from our new manager, when in reality he probably only chose us because he was promised X amount of transfer funds. It turns out this wasn't PR spin, but actually true. He's kept the squad together for the most part, and improved every player and in some cases remarkably so (BTA, Kitching, Torp, Rudoni and Dasilva). Refreshing to see that kind of management, especially from such a high profile name.

If Lampard didn't think Bidwell had a role to play he would have been out the door with the other players that left.

Listening to James Richardson (football Italia) podcast and they spoke about cov. One of the panel said Coventry won the summer transfer window by keeping hold of the same players

Yet we had crybabies on here saying how Doug had fucked us over lol

Glad I remained calm. Proven right again!

Possibly.

Then again there's an argument to be made that us pissing about so much with the CB targets that Bidwell would've had to be retained in case we weren't successful in getting one over the line.

Realistically once Wolfenden was in the building it was likely too late in the day to engineer a move as at that point any interested clubs would've probably moved on to other targets in all likelihood.

Lampard also might've changed his mind on Bidwell as perhaps he realised that a lot more work was needed with Brau than previously thought.

Regardless of the why, it's quite obvious the idea wasn't to have three senior left backs in the side. I don't really think that's up for debate to be honest.

The young Norwegian we were linked with in the summer but his club wouldn’t let him go as they were in the champions league and the middle of a league season.

Pretty much everyone did iirc?

He is a cheap gamble that isn’t currently paying big dividends, and it seems like we could even outgrow him before he gets his feet under the table. It’s no big deal though.

Anyone who has ever taken notice of how long it normally takes players to settle in wouldn't have expected him to be straight into the side. Foreign players take even longer normally. Lampard will know this very well.

We have some very good players. But nearly all of them were called shite or a waste of money until they had time to settle in. We were supposed to have wasted the money we got for Gyokeres and Hamer.

Fair enough, good source reporting it. Not sure we need another striker unless the plan is to have BTA on the wings permanently.

My immediate response is what's the point? But if Lampard sees value in beefing out the options a bit with Bamford i'm willing to buy into whatever the bloke thinks is right atm.

Yeah I’m the same.

Only thing I can see is if BTA is not seen as a option as a ST due to how good he’s played on the wings and as such we only have two strikers in the first team squad

Bloke has two Championship promotions on his CV, bit of experience and I highly doubt he will be playing every week - If it is good enough for Frank then we should have no complaints

BTA seems to be playing in every role in the front 4 other than the CF.

Personally I didn't expect him to be first choice immediately and would need settling time. However I did think he'd be second choice LB and coming off the bench to get minutes so he could learn the system etc. Most of his brief appearances have been as a left attacker and he's barely played any time at all at LB, with Bidwell prefered to come on if we switch.

Considering we were apparently going to sign him regardless of whether we were Champ or PL suggests he needs a lot more time and coaching that we probably thought he would.

Would be odd for me. Attacking wise we're doing amazing at the moment and last few games Simms has started to show he's more than capable as a back-up and BTA has been in incredible form in all the attacking positions. So why do we need Bamford?

Given that Simms seems a confidence player I can't help but feel that bringing in another striker just as he's showing some promise would be detrimental and he'd regress. Of course, on the other hand, perhaps Bamford has been training with us for a little while already and him turning up has caused Simms to pull his finger out his arse so he's not dropped entirely.

Clubs may not loan players to us as they are likely to be on the subs bench. A wide player would be nice but I don't think we need to much else in the next window.

Assuming we're still well in the promotion hunt by Jan I think that loans like that will likely be obligation to buy if we get promoted.

Jan could be a very tricky window. If we're high up the table we might just be able to attract some players that ordinarily we wouldn't at this level, and so we should bring those players in if we can. However, if we've got such good squad unity and we're playing well you don't want to lose that by bringing in players that might disrupt it, and with those higher level players you do potentially run the risk of them coming in thinking they're Bertie Bollocks and causing disharmony.

I think it would be two additions maximum, one for out wide and another in central midfield. The midfielder might not even be needed either.
