We have 2 games NYD charlton then blues on 4th - then its fa cup so next league games Leicester 18th.

be great if we can have the deals done now/ asap to give us maximum support - as guess the squad will be pretty tired by then.

Marquee signing who can cover both flanks up front and get some goals. Ideally move on Allen and Bidwell and get a midfielder in. Someone to learn behind Grimes, maybe. Assuming no shock sales, do we need anything else?

Not really much he can do if his club won't accept an offer for him.

He is under contract. It was the club that rejected the offer not him.

I still suspect we might need better than we have in central defence. Wolfenden may be the answer, but he looks like cover. (I know have just had two clean sheets, but let's not get ahead of ourselves).

As per elsewhere I would like someone better than Saka on the right, with Saka as cover. Someone who can get to the line, get crosses in -above all quickly.

We need more cover in midfield - we should not be dependent on Allen - but finding the right player prepared to take that role will be difficult

expensive cover??

If the opportunity arises then Woolf will start.

players are hardly ever signed as starting players or cover anymore

7 goals against in 7 games. 3 of them in the second game against Derby. 1 goal against in the 3 games this month including away to Leicester. We're getting better defensively as we settle in to the season.

We need cover on the wings before anything else. Maybe cover in the middle for Torp/Rudoni although Eccles reminded us he is good enough and is now getting back to fitness. BTA has been like a new player and has already played in a few different positions.

We're not in 2nd by luck. With a little bit of luck we would be level with Middlesbrough.

"opportunity" is clearly a euphemism for cock up by one of K & T.

There is clearly a divide in every squad outside the Prem between regular starters and cover. We all know the favoured 1st eleven. We all know that Wilson, BTA, Lati, Bidwell are cover. Eccles is in-between, but is anybody else? KKH is clearly viewed as 2nd XI until we sell MVE

I think Woolf was bought on the perfectly logical assumption that one of our central pairing, probably Thomas, would cock up and Woolf would take his place. The threat of this must be a factor in our two clean sheets. K & T want to keep their places. Woolf left Ipswich to avoid being permanently on the bench, he's hardly going to be happy if that is all he does here.

It's what is known as competition for places in the team. At least this way they get the chance to settle in and get to see how we play and what their role is instead of being put straight into the team and not knowing how the rest of the players in the team prefer to play.

Yes we're after better players for cover in certain positions. Nobody will have the right to get straight into the team. When they get their chance it's up to them to keep their place. Anything else could be bad for squad morale. The more better players we bring in the more it will happen. That's why it's good having players like Eccles and BTA waiting for their chance. Very capable at this level and not banging on Lampard's door every day. But yes, we need to continue to improve our squad.

Defence looks sorted for the season barring an injury crisis over the next couple of months

It's clear what we need in January - a CM to replace Sheaf & a winger to compete with Saka. That is the minimum if we're serious

If we want to do really push the boat out (and go for it like Ipswich & Sunderland did in the last two seasons) then you'd add another forward and/or no. 10 so we can rotate a lot more

I'm not sure we do need to replace Sheaf. He's already been replaced by Grimes and the progression of Torp and hopefully Eccles and Andrews.
Unless there's an injury crisis it's one area where we have decent cover.
The wings and a proper 10 to cover/challenge Rudoni are more of a priority.

I think £4m+ on a AMR/L/C in FM parlance would be perfect. EMC seems to be made of glass anyway, and even if not I think all four between Saka EMC Rudi and the new guy would get enough minutes/rest to keep everyone happy and fresh. Another cheap or loaned one would be perfect. Gives us solid cover in every forward position. Honestly that’s about all I’d change for now. Though I may change my tune if Torp gets injured.

Eccles or Andrews for Torp is my one real question mark outside the front line. I can maybe see Eccles stepping up into an 8, think it’s a season too early to ask it of Andrews who just needs to be eased into the level IMO.

By CM I don't mean a direct replacement for Sheaf but someone like Pereira would add a lot of value to our squad

I think we are light there - Torp/Eccles/Rudoni all have/had injury issues & Andrews is yet to be trusted unless a game is settled

Rudoni is a 90' player so I'm not sure we need direct cover as they will not play enough. If we had a CM they would replace Allen's involvement

There's at least £10m burning a hole in Dougs pocket for January. Mostly deadline day Sheaf money.

Scandi leagues are the best option in January as their season will have ended and you won't be forced to pay over the odds. Like we've seen with Torp, there are bargains to be had.

I think, although not a priority, we need to be looking for the next Mat Grimes. He is pivotal. We may get another couple of years out of him, if he can remain fit. But the scouting/recruitment team must have his replacement at the front of their minds, as his role and how well he plays it cannot be underestimated.

at Djurgardens tonight 4-1 at half time. there’s a lad up front for them August Priske who looks a real talent. He’s only 21, 6ft 1 good in the air, lino up play and can finish.

works extremely hard too. with the curly mop of hair on his head he looks like Torp if you tortured him in the rack

can imagine he will make a big european move soon

Except for when he's injured. Like now.

And even then it's worth having that slightly different option in case he's having an ineffective game. Give the opposition something else to think about.

I think I'd go for more of a ball-carrying 10 so it offers that versality in that position.

We definitely need someone to cover Rudoni more than the other CM positions.
