DaSilva being suspended also makes the system less effective, he is another safe ball carrier.
They often interchange passes in forward positions.

Are people expecting much of a tactical shift between now and the end of the season?

I would like to see us shut up shop a bit more during games and just see games out away from home. We should have come away with a draw at Birmingham. Those points can add up.

Not the open support of white nationalism, not the calls for violent civil war in the UK, not the industrial scale child porn production, but JH having his account banned finally being what got UK football fans off Twitter… I’ll take it.

No is the answer. I hope Brighton is right and it's just energy levels that have dropped off and we come back rejuvenated. I'm probably trying to find excuses for the dip. I'm not saying we change the system, just a slight tweak in our style of play.

Onyeka is the best player out of the shouts on here. I think he's probably not on our radar though, a combination of age and transfer fee makes me think we're probably looking a tier down. You never know when we're in this position though.

If he was available I'd take Tanaka in a heartbeat. He was running the show for Leeds last season and he's being used as a sub/rotation option for them. If Leeds bring one in I could see them moving him on.

I'm losing track with the rumours. Didn't Jimmy say we're after an overseas CM but its more of a summer thing and the one we are looking to bring in this window is UK based? We can probably narrow this down by taking high level championship midfielders we might be interested in or lower Prem midfielders not currently getting the minutes they would want.

A lot of our attacking play comes from Torp and he’s already injured. Get both sure but surely the actual problem is more urgent than the theoretical one.

Don’t disagree with this but I also think if Rudi is on form that’s far less of an issue. One thing I can’t quite understand is why he’s not picking the ball up as often/more centrally. He does put in a cracking cross but I just think he can do some more damage in the middle, sliding balls through to wright etc

Not sure if it’s tactical or maybe I’m just noticing him when he’s on the wing (and missing when he’s more central) but just feels like he’s out wide a bit too much. Also means teams can counter/play through midfield far too easily at times

You’ve got to assume if a player is doing someone week after week the the manager is happy with them. One of the things Lampard has praised this squad on is their ability to follow instruction. I don’t get it either as I think he’s at his best crashing the box.

I mean Vik was literally at a PL club. Gus when we were linked had his stats everywhere after a huge response from the data scout community (not sure what the scare quotes are for?). We knew they were players with huge ability because they’d shown it already. Go back to the threads on them being linked and it wasn’t just some badly edited shit music YouTube vid like most of those linked these days.

I dont understand why we need cover for Grimes, who never gets injured and not Torp who is literally injured right now and is for about half the season on average.
Because we have some form of cover for Torp in the form of Eccles and, to an extent, Allen.

We have no-one that plays the same way as Grimes. And it's all very well saying 'he never gets injured'. Same argument was used for O'Hare. Until he did get injured. To not have someone there to fill that role is just piss poor planning. We've also noticed that Grimes hasn't been quite up to his usual high standards last few matches because he's played so many minutes fatigue is showing. And fatigue can be a precursor to injury.

And frankly if we're looking at being PL next season, Grimes is only going to be good enough as a rotation option. Plus his age also means we need to look towards the future. Not saying we can find or afford that upgrade in this window but if the option is there we need to seriously look at it.

I get what you’re saying about Grimes and I don’t think that’s wrong at all, but for me the bigger issue is Torp being missing. We just don’t really have anyone else making those box runs he gives you. Eccles and Allen don’t do it, and Rudoni isn’t that kind of runner anymore. I know there’s been a load of circumstances such as fatigue, illness, and suspensions and all of that has played a part. But the difference when Torp is in the side is huge, purely because of how he plays. That energy and movement just changes the team.

I had no idea who Hamer was prior to him signing. Unlike some on here i prefer to actually see them play in the flesh before making decisions about how good they are.

I don’t see any transfer scenario that sees us rotating Grimes in and out of the rest of this season. It’s a ridiculous idea.

What happens if Grimes gets injured? We would have to completely change how we play, it's not a bad idea top have some who can cover that role.

Rumours Birmingham after him and hes been left out of his squad. Fits being European and seems in our budget. More of a ball winner based on stats then a box to box mind but could offer us more a bite in midfield?

Could be a good shout, seeing as we've been linked with two other players from that team previously who have since moved on, (Bernede and Alvyn Sanchez)

Having the opportunity to take him off after 70 minutes where possible so he's not having to play 90 minutes every game just makes sense. It's not just the physical, it's the mental strain too. We can't do that right now. Even Alex Ferguson used to rotate his best players when they were showing signs of fatigue. He once let Schmeichel go on holiday in the middle of the season because he realised he needed a rest.

What happens if he doesn’t? Our new signing gathers dust on the bench for six months before we overhaul the squad again in July? Not sure their agent will be too happy with that.

He’s one of the league’s best midfielders, has a reputation for incredible durability and has just had two weeks off from playing. He should play as many minutes as possible over the next 20 games.

Need someone in midfield who can affect the game further up the pitch than Grimes normally operates. Sounds like that's what we're after so we should be strong for the run in. Feeling optimistic about it after Esse and Minni came in which addressed one priority.

Anfields new 'on the pitch' dining experience has landed! Surprised at the lack of napkins though considering the amount of dribbles per game.
