I highly doubt they’re on League One wages. Pretty sure both have signed new contracts while we’ve been in the Championship, will have had promotion based increases and Kelly is club captain.

I know you wouldn’t agree.

We have 2 left backs and 2 GK. Therefore, they are ‘nice to have’ rather than a need.

AM - we only have Palmer and Allen going into 2024/25
CM - only Eccles, Sheaf and Torp - that’s not enough for 46+ games
RW - only Sakamoto
ST - Simms and Wright are starters with no backup if Godden goes
CB - Lati is set to become our only cover for RB and CB so a definite need there

As for LB and GK, you don’t need to look to allocate funds unless you’re getting rid of players. Atm, that seems unlikely.

Interested to know do you still think a half decent goalkeeper would be a 'nice to have', and the priority is a central midfielder? Why not address the poor areas rather than our best. Sheaf, Torp and Eccles is a great midfield, and Kelly was fine last night. Collins has been a calamity and has cost us so many points in the last half dozen games.

Big squad churn had a massive impact this season thanks to how badly we started. I really don’t think we want to go down that route again this summer. I know a lot of the players are having bad ends to the season, but we’ve invested in them now and I think we just have to stick with them. Binning off players you’ve spend money on/given big contracts too every year is exactly how you end up like Stoke, Birmingham etc.

Replace Kelly, Allen, Godden and McFadzean with improvements, bring in some cover on the wings and at centre back and then look at getting a new keeper.

Think it’s all understandably petering out, think players will improve after a full pre season

Marek Rodak, Marc Leonard, Kyprianou, Burrows, Dolan, Cullen, Paddy Mcnair, Binks back on loan. Replace 1-2 of them either with a young perm loan or no signing at all and I think we got a realistic window. Expecting 6 singings but hoping for 7 excluding developmental signings.

If we can win the golden glove with Ben Wilson in goal, that should tell you everything you need to know.

My priority list and indeed the players our ITKs have shared, will not have changed. We have a lot of areas where we have 1-2 options

I’m not going to repeat the same things in relation to midfield because we’re miles apart. Either way, Torp, Eccles and Sheaf will not be at 100% if they need to play 50-odd games all season.

By all means, if we’ve addressed our positional needs, and there’s a better GK than we have, then you’d be stupid not to replace them. GK and LB are just not positional needs as things stand.

Lots of calls for a number of new signings in the close season, personally I don't think we need much. A sprinkle of quality and a little more depth.

I assume we'll lose O'Hare, Kelly, Moore, possibly Godden.

Tavares I'd give another year, I'd sign Binks on a permanent if possible. Add to that we've got a couple of decent kids who may train on, Sakamoto will be back, Jack Burroughs from his loan, a fit Jamie Allen, EMC already on the way. Torp a pre season with us.

We have a squad of our players, a year better, older and used to our system. Still young and now coached by Robins and Viveash with more improvement to come. Hopefully even if we added nothing, I'd still back us to have a much stronger start.

I'm looking at what we should upgrade. Burrows possibly from Peterborough but would be harsh on Bidwell or even JDS after yesterday's showing. Possibly a keeper, we have two reasonable imo, but if there's an upgrade out there and of course a number 10, not got any particular names in mind. Happy everywhere else tbh unless anyone moves on.

What do you think should be the priority positions and with a long season, is it quantity, quality or both you'd spend on?

I like a small tight knit squad, it's served us well, but past couple of seasons it's been that drop off in quality after key injuries that has seen us fall just short.

You say, Moore, O'Hare, Kelly, Godden plus we lost McFadzean - so that is 5 just to stand still? For most of this season we have had untested youngsters on the bench.

The squad is too small. As well as replacing the 5 mentioned, we need Binks or a replacement. We need a dedicated right back and someone to challenge Sakamoto.

My concern is will Sakamoto be the same? Back injuries are terrible and once there is a weakness in the spine it tends to stay. More a case of managing it rather than recovering from it.

We have the nucleus of the team but we still need 7 or 8 in to bolster the squad strength and depth in my opinion.

We’re short in a lot of areas and the season has caught up us. Having to play Hull a few days after the semi-final was a difficult ask.

In the priorities I outlined earlier in the thread show how short we are in places. We play 4-2-3-1 and going into next season we have; 2 recognised wingers, 3 CMs to cover 2 spots, 3 CBs and Lati covering MVE too and we don’t have a sub striker if Godden leaves. Meanwhile we’re well stocked on GKs and LB - if we need to wait a season before getting rid, I’m ok with that.

We need to be able to switch these players out because this season and last showed that injuries and fatigue catch up.

I would for someone with power and pace down the left hand side, Bidwell is solid enough but very limited, dasilva gets forward quicker and is better technically, the fact that some of our fantasy think he's the best Left Back in the league is downright ludicrous. He nearly went last January when he was having a medical at Birmingham only to be called back.

We also have the best midfield in the league apparently… Results against top half teams say otherwise.

The stats do make a solid case for Sheaf to be one of, if not the best midfielder but his absence is sorely missed whenever he’s off the pitch.

CB is quite complex for us as it stands. So ideally, we play a back four and let’s keep in mind that very few left footed CBs have made it in the RCB position.

Ok so let’s assume we can sign Binks (good intelligent player, good on the ball and in the tackle, needs work on positional play imo). Bologna want £3-4m for him. Best case, they let him go for £2-2.5m.

We only have one RCB (Thomas) so if he gets injured, we need cover. Not going to get into Lati hating but let’s say he won’t be ideal as RCB in a back 4.

So we need new player(s) who can play RCB because I don’t reckon Binks or Kitching can. Then, you’ve also got to assume that Binks and Kitching will accept being rotated / benched and is that wise given that they would both have substantial price tags.

Probably means signing Binks plus 1 RCB permanent and one on loan and trying to keep them all happy (including parent club) if we want proper cover at CB.

And I'll be v happy

Need to get a good replacement for o hare and a extra centre mid

Get binks perm too

One more winger and ideally another specialist right back

Then we look good to go for a title challenge

A new left CH and a new CDM give us the opportunity ( if we take it ) to add some experience to the squad …..

I don’t mean journeymen experience, I mean top quality pro’s who have played at the highest level but whose legs probably can’t cope with the pace of the Premier League and are now on a bosman.

Brighton and Brentford have both done this well

Brighton are apparently set to sell Marc Lenard for £300 - £400k but we are no longer one of the linked clubs according to the media. Hes highly rated but we cannot afford to take a punt on such an important position. If we are serious, we need a proven player

The only thing I'd say to that is that we are replacing 5 who have no impact with 5 who we expect to be in contention.

People are worried about squad churn again if we sign 6-8 players aren’t considering the different states of our squad going into this summer.

Already on the first day next season we can play:

Collins
MvE
Thomas
Kitching
Bidwell
Sheaf (hopefully)
Eccles
Saka
Palmer
Wright
Simms

We can start strong with that side and get stronger as we ease the signings in. Last year we had to play most of our new signings from the start as we didn’t have anybody else.

Think he could be good to take the 5th choice CM spot.

We need young promising players who can learn over 12-18 months and take the mantle once our starters move on.

Brighton do this perfectly (look at Caicedo). Need to start thinking a few transfer windows ahead.

Not quite - he signed a contract extension until the end of 24/25.

Still looks like quite an odd decision now he’s apparently out the door.

It’s not really MR’s fault he’s scored 1 league since September - he signed the new contract after a fantastic burst of goals in August.

Godden wasn’t good enough last season. We could all see that. I was amazed when we offered him a new long term contract.

He looks miles off it at the minute and a move has got to be in everyone’s best interests ….

It’s certainly a hugely different discussion than we would have been having 4 years ago when staying up was the target. Reality is given our successes every year becomes a play off target and leads to tough selection decisions. Firm fans favourites who I like as well may not make the grade

He’s not a punt, would start over Torp. One of the best midfielders in League One. I doubt Brighton would sell that low, they could be looking at £1.5-£3m for him.
