Tomorrow is the anniversary of the most drab, depressing game I've ever had the misfortune to attend. Two poor teams playing out a dull game in front of a pitiful crowd that remained almost silent and disinterested throughout, only interspersed by the sound of fireworks outside.

Despite the complaints of some this season, the club feels light years forward from then, even though we are in the same league!

Ah yeah, I was in the west terrace that night. Nicky summerbee got a lot of abuse from the crowd that match. The fireworks around the ground made it seem more intimidating too

My god I remember this too- when anyone talks about how amazing Highfield Road was, point them to this game.. this was exceptionally bad, but most games were a bit like this in the final few years

I have a feeling that we also played Rotherham at home in the same week and that also ended 0-0. If we had won both (as we were expected to do I think) then we would have been around the playoff places.

Surely the Yeovil game at the Ricoh arena is worse than that and I was at both games

Pretty sure I counted their fans there was that few of them and it was something like 78!

Literally the only cheers of the night were for the fireworks.

Why do I remember this too, the most drab game I've ever witnessed and it sticks in my mind for some reason.

I dunno - the last game of the season (and ours in the prem) against Bradford at home when we drew 0-0 was more drab and depressing

I remember the loss against Grimsby around the same time.....plenty of unhappy fans refusing to leave the ground and then having a sit in, in front of the Grimsby coach. Police got confused as couldn't push people away!!

In this period we only one one game between December 2002 and September 2003, it was so bleak and I think we thought things couldn’t get any worse.. how wrong we were.

In that period we were also taking a few hundred away, I just looked and we took 195 to one game- now we’re getting 26k per home match, 5th biggest away following in the league- it’s incredible really and just shows how we wasted a generation while most other clubs were making progress.

Yeah, you look back now during that season, and if anyone had told you how bad it really would get you seriously would not have believed them for one minute.
I used to go with a big group of mates from early 90's through to mid 00's and slowly they faded away....to the point where I had to bully my housemate into getting a ST, then my was gf into going with me and then going up on my own even at home games!!
Generation lost as well as plenty of supporters who just lost interest.....I'm so glad we've been on the up and the supporters are returning. I still believe we'll be in the mix of the play-offs, too

I've been in some very barren away ends after that era as well tbf

Sheffield United the season we went down from L1 sticks to mind, was only a few days after Wembley, we were all but mathematically down playing a side who had to win to get promoted and I'd be amazed if there was even more than 100 of us there

As I left I threw my season ticket at Joe Elliott in the Directors box.
He picked it up and beckoned me over and was very understanding of my actions and asked if I wanted it back.

Yea I listen to them singing, take me home highfield rd. And remember the midweek games on cold winters nights in the west end. Less than 10k in the ground.
Shity discussing toilet, wooden hut at the back passing for a bar. No problem getting served cos there was hardly any ducker there.
Ahh the good old days

It was a dump but it was OUR dump though.
I still think the old girl could have been redeveloped despite what others have said.
I don't buy into neighbouring houses prevented this or that. Just look at Anfield and how that has changed in the years we dropped out of the prem. That was very much landlocked with scores of terraced houses squashed up next to the ground and yet with careful purchasing of neighbouring properties by the club and a desire by their City Council to assist it's become a top stadium in this country.

I was there at that match and I remember thinking this duplicated a few of the drab o-o draws we had under Don Howe.

I went to my first game there in 1962 so I get the nostalgia.
But when I am at the CBS I know where I would rather be.
Just need the shitty council to remove parking restrictions. Sod all the nimbys of today, the residents in the past put up with it for a couple of hours now and then.

A lot of people who are singing about hr must never have gone there it was a dump but as someone said above could have been redeveloped, but more money to be made in building new things.

I was at the Bradford game it was a shocker must be something about fixtures at this time of year.
