Given that Eccles is seemingly attracting more interest than him, he's probably still going to be here and I would imagine will keep the captaincy. You don't really strip that from someone without causing turbulence.

Ideally though, we need someone who's going to be playing 90 minutes every game that should take the role. That really shouldn't be Sheaf with the players we've got this season, especially if we sign Pereira, which would then bump him down to a squad player.

Grimes would be the ideal candidate as a much better captain and leader, and someone who's likely to be one of the first names on the team sheet. He was captain at Swansea for several years I believe.

Liam Kelly was club captain whilst barely playing a minute of league football. You dont need to be on the pitch, we have many leaders within the squad
And also, how the fuck would anyone sat in the stands have any clue if Sheaf is a good captain or not?

You have to do outwardly showy things like shout at the ref and wear a Terry Butcher headband to impress the fans as captain. With that in mind I think our best option for captain might actually be Norm.

I was certain it would be Grimes and that the only reason it wasn’t done straight away was to avoid rocking the boat.

But after Sheaf being captain midweek I’m not so sure now.

Players basically never get stripped of the captaincy without leaving the club or falling out with the manager.

I'd be surprised if Sheaf loses the armband without leaving.

I actually completely agree with your take on the captaincy and his vs Grimes' suitability

Just genuinely no idea where you find the energy to keep posting the same things about his ability and value

Especially as most of it is made up bollocks

The dwindling values people have put on his head certainly have started in the over 20 million category, and have since fallen dramatically in the same incremental fashion as my strikethroughs. There's many posts on here that prove it. Sorry, but you can't really call it bollocks when there's sufficient evidence that a lot of our fan base have drastically overrated this player. Virtual silence on transfer talk now and this denial qualifies it further.

I agree that you are very unlikely to see a player get stripped of a captaincy whilst they're still at a club, so I think he will still be it if he's still here. However, from a value and contract perspective he would actually be one of the most obvious choices to move on from our midfield, particularly when you add in that we have better players now, and also the captaincy headache. I just think it is unlikely we will find someone willing to pay us enough to justify it, although I could of course be wrong.

I'm curious to see what happens in the remainder of this transfer window.

Only 5 more weeks of unsubstantiated bollocks to go

As the season went on, the player who led by example more tham any other player was Rudoni. It would probably be disruptive to strip Sheaf of the captaincy, and I’m not sure how vocal Rudoni is, or whether we’ll keep him into next season, but for determination and drive, I think we are seeing a future captain in Rudoni.

A big part of being captain is helping to organise where the players should be. A CM is perfect as they are in the middle of all the players and have a good view of what's going on.

In 00/01 we had a club captain (Paul Williams) and a team captain (Hadji) or something like that. Utter nonsense. Probably why we got relegated.

Didn't Cardiff do this when Bellamy went to them at the end of his career?

Ironically Ben Sheaf had a bandage on his head whilst captain for us. Wasn't covered in blood like Butcher's though
