Hello Sky Blues Talk

Thanks for all the positive comments when I posted my Coventry article on here in May. Thought I'd post my two-part Championship season predictions piece on here as well.

How are you all feeling for the upcoming season? Without spoiling things, I think you're in a very good position.

Hope you enjoy the read and let me know what you think.

Cheers

Automatic promotion to the Prem, what a dream that would be! Would have been absolutely unthinkable just a couple of years ago, but now it's really believable. This is a magical journey we're on, can't wait for the season to start.

NTT20 who are probably the best out there have us 3rd. Got Milwall and Watford 23rd and 24th.

Wouldn't surprise me. They've had so many depart, they are struggling to get an 11 for their first game. New manager as well and no strikers in place after Kieffer Moore and BTA turned them down.

Spoke to a few Hull fans on Twitter after the BTA transfer and they are not comfortable at all about their position.

I'd take that now. Predictions in the Championship are impossible to make as (to use a cliche) every team can beat each other. I have mentioned before, teams that were also rans last season have got better managers and are much better organised. Many matches home and away will be battles and we have to win the battles before we can play our football.
We really need to cut out our mistakes in midfield and at the back and we will be there abouts..

We are so much better going under the radar where everyone overlooks us or diminishes our chances.

I'm much happier with people saying we'll maybe get 6th rather than guaranteeing us autos.

Considering how many players they've lost and with a new manager, 9/1 is good value for them to go down. Happened to Huddersfield...

I have them 20th but their squad has been completely gutted. I don’t think their owner is particularly patient either so I can’t see him doing what Cov have done and taking a year to rebuild.

The standard in the top two this season will be lower than last year but beyond that things will be stronger. I’m looking forward to watching it as a neutral for once!

It is. Leeds will finish either first or second, with Luton taking the other spot, I reckon. Think we'll be in and amongst the playoff contenders, I can see Sheffield Wednesday being a bit of a proverbial dark horse, good manager is Danny Rohl

They are a year behind us. We had a playoff challenge, lost our loans and two key players then had to rebuild. This season is on the back of a stable platform built on that rebuild

Their playoff challenge was last season. Now their loans and some perms have gone. Only difference is they lost their manager too.

Speaking to their fans, they understand where they are in comparison to us. But the lack of rebuild is what's frustrating them. And their state is what's deterring players from signing. Who wants to sign for an apparent basket case ?

The top 4 compared to the previous few seasons was quite high based on the environment they were playing in.

I think we can sort out where everyone is in the league faster than anyone else can. Just need a few games played.

Just a hunch

Everyone seems very confident about Leeds seemingly forgetting that they were 2nd, 1 point off the top (a team fresh out of league 1) with 6 games to go and totally blew it (1 win, 1 draw, 4 loses).

They then didn't turn up for the playoff final and a bunch of their best players left. They won't be far off but having spent a lot of time around Leeds fans you learn - you should never underestimate their ability to ch#ff things up!

Are Leeds actually in a better position than they were last season? The same question could be asked of Burnley and Luton.

When we complete our transfer business, we’ll be capable of finishing in the top 4, in my view. Simms and Wright should get over 17 league goals each and they’ll be supported by BTA, EMC and Sakamoto, all capable of hitting 10 goals apiece.

My only ‘concern’ is our ability to keep clean sheets. Our overall defensive record was decent last season but there were too many dropped points without that discipline we had in 2022/23. The personnel is unchanged and a CB (preferably imo) or RB is needed here.

Lastly, our form against the top teams in the division will be key, it was far too poor last season.

It’s such a great feeling to be considered one of the top sides in the division!

Top 2 is a very bold call for us. Personally think top 6 would be a great season. We require a consistency I've just not seen from us at all last season, to win game after game and grind out so many difficult games. The goals will come I'm sure, but I really do feel we're 2 defenders (an experienced CB and a good back up full back) plus a commanding centre mid off being a top 2 side. Burnley's squad is absolutely stacked, Luton are stronger than last time when they finished 3rd and won the play offs. Sheff united have a strong team plus Hamer and O'Hare. Leeds will be strong come end of the window, and Norwich arent to be dismissed. Top 2 would be a remarkable achievement, not impossible but it would take a monumental effort and mindset. Can't wait to see what happens ! PUSB

There's a reason we're being tipped to be up there by neutrals. Its because we should be. Stop pissing your knickers at other teams and get on board.

Think our automatics push depends on Gyok’s transfer.

We’re currently a top 6 side that are two great signings (CM & experienced CB) away from being a side who can get 85+ points

I don't think I've listened to a single podcast, YouTuber etc.. that has us outside the top 4 yet.

Definitely agree about Hull being a year behind. Not sure if you read this when I posted it here on May but there’s a bit of a comparison.

Losing Summerville is a big concern for Leeds but they players who should step up/return from loan are decent. If Joseph starts over Piroe that will make them much better at pressing from the front and improve Rutter as well. Aaronson is another decent option for the attack. In a slightly weaker division, I reckon they’ll get there this time.

RE Cov, I agree that the defence is the only part of the pitch that needs another addition or two. To be in early August with 80% of the transfer business already done is impressive though.

I don’t see the hype with Sheff United. The depth isn’t really there and I’ll be surprised if Hamer stays. I’m not convinced by Wilder either.
