at the time of the ground originally was being built, to improve spirits in the local community, all the local streets created teams and played in a football round-robin tournament on gosford green, the winner of which would have their street name used for the new ground.

This is brilliant love history like this. They should make a mini series about it.

I first went up aged 12 in the 98/99 season. Can’t remember the game but my stand out memory was being offered a blow job for £12 by a haggard woman with no teeth leaving a night game… that stays with a 12 year old. And the Boxing Day 3-2 win V Arsenal.

Sneaked up to games as a teenager and had to race home after, once started working then was always the elastic inn and a walk up.
Queuing for 87 was insane around stadium after the final game between a mate and me, we had only just started working
Always get tagged in each year as photo of the lad holding the highfield road sign has me just behind him, not sure what I had done with my son, I’m just laughing.
good days and plenty of good memories on surviving end of season battles, the best Christmas ever in 92 beating Liverpool and Villa

Noticed on YT a few days back that some guy called Dean Lander has uploaded the whole of the Villa game (and also extended highlights of the Liverpool game)! -

There are a few last day of HR vids on his channel too. Legend

It’s what made me fall in love with Coventry. Had a season ticket from about 7 and fell in love with the atmosphere, the club and highfield road! Don’t get a stadium like that now

Whilst working up and down the country as a service engineer I was often amazed when the topic of football came up in conversation and declaring I was a Coventry City fan that HR was spoken about with genuine affection by fans of other clubs.

A lot of the big clubs came and enjoyed a good punch up without it ever being on the radar and not a massive police presence. It was such a good walk up from the train station for them.

Is this true? I’m not saying it isn’t just that I’m always kinda surprised to hear about violence at/near the games. I’ve never really experienced anything…obviously saw the Pompey stuff and Leicester at the City Arms.

70s and 80s early 90s yes, Coventry never had one of the notorious mobs so when teams came here the fans could get away with it

Never enough space there. Compare the area the Butts stadium (top left) occupies to the Central 6 site (bottom right).

Would be curious to what it could of looked like had we got relegated at Tottenham and scrapped the Stadium 2000 project as would imagine they would have done redevelopment at the stadium.

Hands up if you had some sort of intercourse at Highfield Rd?
(Hands up emoji)
I think it was around 91-92 and Ndlovu was playing for the reserves, took my first ever girlfriend along with me, fingered her in the toilets of the main stand and got a pie and bovril after. Happy days. Great memories.

Why was it called Highfield Road, when the ground wasn't on Highfield Road?

I don't know if anyone's answered this, I haven't read the whole thread yet.

Highfield Road was the nearest Road to the stadium when they first moved in.

To be fair, Ndlovu was a shagger so it's no surprise he took your girlfriend and then you.
