Coventry is the only city in England, including London (!) to have two top 15 universities.

University league tables 2020

That's massive for the city.

That is very impressive. If only our delightful Government and Cov CC could have a joint vision to tap into that talent, creativity and enterprise to boost local economy and knock om benefits for all. Always get the Impression Warwick Uni try and pretend they aren't really in Coventry which is a PR disaster for our city. Most people I ask down south predictably think its in Warwick! The Oxford-Cambridge Arc gets massive investment from the Tories so why not Cov.
As usual a lack of a national economic/industrial vision lets the UK down. Not sure what has happened to the 'Midlands Engine" of a couple of years back - which although clumsy was at least a different approach - hoping it hasn't lost its momentum as Cov is at a genuinely exciting crossroads at the mo with UK City Of Culture ..... and Euro City Of Sport (hahahhah - thanks for fcuking that up CCC & Wasps!).

Jury's out on whether HS2 bypassing the City is a good or bad thing though!

When I did my degree my university was 4th in the country for it's degree, Coventry was 97th overall.

How times change!

In fairness to Warwick their stance has changed over the last couple of years and they now are move pro-Cov and are fully behind the City of Culture bid.

Unfortunately, with the new OFS and brexit we are going to see some universities go bust or have to merge but fortunately both our universities are in relatively good shape.

I’m not sure people are actually aware of how successful Cov have been and the uni is now the 4th biggest in terms of numbers and is highly successful in recruiting students from across the world and are really looked at as the template for success which many universities are now trying to replicate.

Left Cov uni a few years ago but they are very aggressive at recruitment....it’s great for the City and a source of great pride. Think it will unravel a bit as they need the back office to catch up but if they can maintain a top 25 status that’s impressive for a non red brick

Just rechecked... it’s the Guardian and that doesn’t include research. The Times is the big one and Cov won’t be as high despite really ramping up on research....

Depending on what market you’re looking at will depend on whether The Times or the Guardian rankings are favoured.

I would say that there appears to have been a shift towards universities who give practical teaching and are have high employability rates rather than your traditional red bricks which is why you see universities such as Nottingham Trent, Lincoln, Portsmouth etc all doing well.

Without wanting to put Coventry uni down, I wouldn’t want to be looking at The Guardian for university rankings. Try using the Shanghai rankings or something similar.

If you go to the bottom-rated uni, do they suck knowledge out of you so you leave dumber than when you entered?
