I just want this Luton game out the way, all the flapping is too much and unnecessary right now.

If we lose and Boro win we can flap that week leading up to the win and in game. Win and Boro lose and it's easy street and you can put your arses back in.

True, but I would rather not HAVE to beat Boro.

A Norwich win could be fabulous for us.

The only way we would have to beat Middlesbrough last game is if they win their next game and we lose ours. Middlesbrough will be short odds so you will only get about 3/1 with the bookies for it to happen.

A Norwich win would mean a point for us against Luton would secure our playoff spot unless Millwall win at Burnley and that they beat Swansea on Saturday.

Suppose both teams match each other’s results at the weekend, the game remains ‘winner takes all’.

Boro slip up and lose, even a draw allows us to go on our holidays before the final day.

That would be perfect. Both the below scenarios would be brilliant.

Either a draw for us and Boro lose

Or we win and Boro draw

Alternatively, if we were both to draw, we will almost certainly only need a draw against Boro to cement our place

Or does all look very rosy. Just can't slip up at Luton

Us away against some of the basement boys under frank

Not included pompey 4-1 when they were bottom

That's sport for you and that's why the Championship is such a good league, teams towards the bottom are more than capable of beating playoff teams at home. Look at Monday, 5 out of the bottom 7 won, with the other 2 drawing against each other.

Another tough game coming up on Saturday. Hopefully we can get minimum of a point to stay in the top 6 going into the last game of the season

Saw someone say there’s 7 wins between us and Luton. Which over a season with luck and referees is nothing at all really in terms of quality. It’s such a tight league.

Yeah, it seems obvious, but scoring last minute winners really do cause a big difference.
Cardiff have only lost 3 more games than us, but have drawn 16 (we've only drawn 9)

If we draw against Luton and draw against Middlesbrough we would finish above them even if they beat Norwich. The only problem is Blackburn are still in it. They are 4 points behind us but are at home to Watford, then away to Sheffield United. Would put my mind at rest if Watford could get a point.

Nothing would surprise me about this weekend results, that's why I'm not too worried. It's as likely we beat Luton and Middlesboro lose to Norwich as the other way round.

Using this logic there is only 7 wins between villa and Liverpool.. its an awful lot of wins and an awful lot of points

Or Cardiff who have only lost 3 more games than us. Yet they look to be getting relegated and we look to be in the playoffs.

3 points for the win instead of 2 has made a big difference to those that draw more than win.

It’s not though is it? Look at us pre and post new years. It’s a run of good or bad form and a couple of decisions going for/against you. And Villa aren’t in the relegation zone.

The longest winning streak in the league this season is six games (Blackburn)

Only four teams have won more than four consecutive games

I agree. Shocking isn’t it? Anyway well placed rumours have it that Farke is about to be sacked and replaced by Jose Mourinho. They basically won every game.

If we'd continued at a point per game from November we'd be going into the Luton game 2 points behind with two to play and probably no Matt Grimes. We've come too far to chuck it away now.

I'm sure that's exactly what FL is saying to the players right now

We have got right to the pinnacle and we can't let it slip through our fingers now.

We are 3 points ahead of the nearest team to us. It's a fabulous place to be.

Would be an even better place to be if we had a GK that didn't let it slip through his fingers

Well, if the rumour is true that it will be Wilson in for Saturday, I will feel a lot better.

Doesn't make any difference whether people think Wilson is worse or not.

Collins clearly needs taking out of the firing line. Literally!

Its a quarter of the total points needed to win the premier league and almost half the points needed to stay up

Over 10 games its 2.1 points per game average

Why are you bringing up the PL, a league with 8 fewer games a season and a much wider point gap from top six to relegation, in a discussion about how tight the Championship is?

Not sure why the league is relevant really , if you gave derby 21 more points they'd be in the playoffs , if I gave west ham 21 more points they'd be in the european places ..

We were 12 points off the top 6 at the end of November after 18 games.

It took a further 17 games for us to make up that 12 point gap and get into the play off places.

Yes its only 21 points without us gaining another point in the process of them making it up

If we get more points than Middlesbrough on Saturday they can't catch us.
If they win and we lose on Saturday we have to beat them in the final game.
All other scenarios require us to win or draw against them to reach the playoffs.

Derby are on the same points as Luton, West Ham are 15 points ahead of Ipswich. Stop moving the goal posts.

All jack wilshere injuries that blighted his career have led to him being in temporary charge Saturday.

God works in mysterious ways. Maybe he's gonna beat Norwich for us!

Blackburn right in it if they win on Saturday.
Then they play Sheffield United - if it gets to this point, if they beat Sheffield United, they play Sheffield United in the playoffs!!
What would you want as a Sheffield United fan!?
Us, Boro, Millwall or Blackburn!?

Well I'm not generally the bottom 3 this year are worse than your average so its not a normal season

I'm not moving the goalposts 21 points takes alot longer to make up than you think normally and its dependant on everybody else not picking up points ..

Its a big margin

I would guess us. They've lost every game but one since they beat us including at home against Millwall. Lose at home to Blackburn and then play them twice more?

What I'm saying is that Wilder could rest players, leave a few challenges in on key players knowing full well they will be playing then again, as a flavoured opponent over two legs.
This is Chris Wilder.

Would you want to be in their position or ours?

I don’t think Sheff U would want to lose v Blackburn if they would then have to play them away days later.

Bristol are an interesting admission from that list, they have Leeds away so they are unlikely to get above 71 points.

Doesn't really impact Sheffield United negatively either way.
My posts have said -IF - it gets to that point.
