Coventry City - Contracts expiring in 2024

This is the overview of Coventry players whose contracts run out at the end of the selected season. It also shows contract options and agents.
www.transfermarkt.co.uk

Vik will be gone this summer and if Hamer doesn’t accept a contract he will be sold this summer.

What to do with Callum? New contract offer or see where he is after his injury?

Godden will be 32 next month. Time to cash in or have as a back up?

Moore. Should we sell and get an upcoming prospect to push Wilson? He’s 33 and has higher wages than Wilson.

Reid isn’t going to break through so should be moved on this summer.

How long is Cashman’s contract? Thought he would be on there

Cashman is part of the Under 21 list. The list AFC posted was first team squad only.

And good to see you back, STP. Been a while since you posted last.

Am I being naive in thinking Callum will feel some loyalty is owed after paying his salary for a year despite him being injured?

No occupational hazard and if someone pays you more you’re off ….

Not enough to turn down a decent opportunity.

But I think if we offered him a decent new deal now while he's still out we could get him tied down for a extra couple of years. But he wouldn't be signing it out of loyalty, more security due to the uncertainty caused by his injury.

I think we will wait and see how he recovers, we don't want another Jodi Jones situation,
Especially with O'hare being on decent wages. I don't think there's any rush as no one is going to buy him until he proves his fitness and form.

I’ll be honest we need to see where he’s at with the ACL. Not played football for a season as well. However, he could return from injury in the autumn and find some form, he can then talk to any club from Jan 24 and leave on a free. So a 1+1 contract in addition to his final year would be the best option.

I’m sure he will be fine, plenty of top players have come back from ACLs to a high standard, Alan Shearer, Roy Keane, even here at the other end of the football spectrum Max Biamou came back fit after a nine month absence. COH will be monitored properly and not rushed.

Sheaf, Eccles, Howley, Burroughs and Wilson are the future.

I'd give O'Hare a new deal now if he is up for signing one. Seems a lifetime ago but he was pretty much our key man, the player everyone talked about & on the cusp of a massive money move. If he stays fit he is a huge asset, financially and on the pitch. We can't afford to lose that for free in 12 months.

Gonna be a tricky one to balance things so everyone is happy though. We'll want to keep wages down incase of another injury, he was probably mentally gearing up for a massive deal at Burnley... and annoyingly I'd imagine his agent will be telling him to do his rehab here, get fit then have his pick of teams (and signing on fees) in 12 months

We have no idea how he will be when he returns. I would not be offerring any contract extension until we do know.

Yeah but that's the point, it's a gamble either way. Realistically we won't be able to judge his long term fitness until probably Jan at the earliest.

There is every chance he'll be fine once recovered, lots of player come back and have great careers. I think we are just burned by the Jodi Jones situation but I think that's a bit of an anomaly. Jodi seems to be doing fine now anyway.

I'd hate to let a player recently valued at 8-10m slip through our fingers for nothing

I’d definitely offer him a contract. It’s a good gamble - if he stays injury free for a while then he’s a £5m player at the least. He’d been pretty hardy before last season despite getting kicked every week.

The question is more whether he’d sign one imo

Surely it depends entirely on how his injury is recovering. If we did offer him one I would have thought he would sign.

Unless his injury means he’ll never play professional football again, I think it’s worth the gamble - especially at his age.

His potential value is too high to let him go this summer for cheap or next summer for free.

It’s a risk / reward gamble heavily favoured towards reward imo

But also we could have somebody who fails to recover from a serious injury on a long term contract. I would wait til the end of the year before offering anything personally.

Too late then.

If he's recovered then he's got 6 months left, other teams will see he's recovered and make him a decent offer in wages to join on a free at the end of the season.

If we're going to do it we're going to have to take the gamble now and hope for the best.

It would be a surprise if Callum's knee could take the 10 fouls per game battering of the past and it's unlikely that he would have the confidence in it either. He's going to have to recover strongly and find a way to rework his game a little perhaps. I don't think they'll be rushing as yet to offer him a new deal, if he's out for 10 months or so that would be mid-autumn . I would expect them to give him enough time to recover and to regain full fitness though if that's a new 12 month deal or whatever. Anyway, all the best to him.

As long as he’s fit before the New Year so we can offer him a deal if needed then fine. Risky game waiting until he’s got six months left tho.
