The book was excellent, like most of Stephen King's work, but the majority of adaptations are, quite frankly, gash. Be interested to see if this bucks the trend.

It's a common complaint. He's a panster by nature (i.e.writes without planning ahead) and often reaches a point where he has to find an ending that fits what he's written. The writers that pre-plan often have stronger endings, but there is far less 'life' to the books, because the writer forces the characters to follow a scripted path rather than letting them live.
