Coventry City was elected into the Football League for the season 1919-1920. The Centenary of that moments event is dawning upon the club & I was wondering whether the club has mentioned anything about it? Will a special crest be designed or a special day declared? Does anyone know who we played in that 1st of what was then Division 2? We finished 20th out of 22nd that season. Where will be for the 100th year?
"Coventry City made a disastrous start in their debut season in the Football League. They lost their first match 0-5 at home to Spurs and didn't manage a win in their first 19 Football League matches - they didn't even score a goal in the last 11 matches in that sequence. All changed on Christmas Day 1919 when they beat Stoke 3-2 at Highfield Road. Mind you things things soon slipped again - on Boxing Day they lost 1-6 at Stoke in the return League fixture!"
Not really. City were elected to Division 2 in 1919 as there were only two divisions then. The Third Division was created a year later, and became Division 3 North and South the year after that.
We clung on to Second Division status until 1925 when we were relegated to Div.3N. Then moved to Div.3S in 1926.

Well, League 2 is really Division 4 so it is true that we have played in all of them. We are not the only club to have played in Div 3N and Div 3S but there aren't many. A few Midland clubs moved depending on who got relegated from Div 2.
Just checked and the other clubs to have played in both Div 3N and Div 3S are Mansfield, Port Vale, Shrewsbury and Walsall. None of those have ever played in the top flight.
