Still think 85 is enough. 17 points from 12. Enough to finish probably 8th if replicated over the season. I think we hit that total in the Blackburn game but don’t confirm promotion until the last home game

That’s why I said it’s important we start winning away from home. Means we don’t have the pressure of the last 7 home games being must wins…

12 games left with 7 at home and 5 away now. This 3 game streak has put us in a great position.

A shame it's ended this way.

Hoping Ipswich Boro are a 12:30 kick off and they push us back to the 17:15 slot so we know what we need to do to secure promotion

Don't even think it will come to that

Said since about November time that if we were to do it, Pompey H On Tuesday 21st April is the one

Cant even say why just had an inkling ever since I looked at our last few games.

I hope the game we do it in is a home game, and we know at the final whistle that we’ve done it. Not an early kick off so that we all have to go home and wait for someone else to lose.
It would be great to build some memories of success around the CBS

I'd prefer the other way round. Beat Blackburn 12.30 and get back to Cov for the 17:15 kick off and (hopefully) the start of the celebrations

Remaining top 6 fixtures…

Cov: HUL, WRX
Boro: MIL, IPS, WRX
Mil: HUL, IPS, BORO,
Ips: HUL, MIL, BORO
Hul: IPS, MIL, WRX, COV,
Wrx: HUL, COV, BORO

that lot looks intriguing don't it??? lots of points to drop/pick up. We only have 2 games to worry about, a nice situation to be in sit back and watch it all unfold.

Hopefully we won’t be worried about the result by the time we play Wrexham.

I'm like a metronome swinging between confident and worried.

If Ipswich win their games in hand then they join Boro on 5 points behind us. That means only two slip ups and them winning and we're behind them both.

On the other hand with them all having to play each other they should all drop points so if we win our, on paper, easier games, starting Saturday, then they shouldn't be able to catch us.

It's very exciting/nerve-racking and a lot less stressful being in the chasing pack.

Had they beaten Pompey recently they’d be in a great position. They haven’t got the legs for it imo.

They play Ipswich and Boro away so if they beat both teams, they deserve it. It’s just a ridiculously high ask and whoever modelled Millwall to finish 2nd… redo the numbers or rework the model!

21 points surely would be enough for automatic promotion

That would give us 89 points

12 games to go , we might only need 6 wins and 3 draws. So, we could afford 3 losses. That's eminently doable isn't it.

To be honest, my view is that it’ll be quite comfortable in the end. Ipswich have to play 7 games in 21 days or something? I think they beat Millwall and Boro to 2nd but finishing top is a stretch too far imo.

Win on Saturday and we go 8 points top with Boro playing Birmingham on Monday who have only lost once at home this season. Realistically, we’ll remain 7 points top if they draw.

Psychologically for Boro especially it'll be awful if we end up that far clear despite the respective runs of form each team were in at the turn of the year.

I didn't watch the whole game against Leicester, but it looked like their players were getting frustrated each other.
Hellbergs comments in his post-match interview too.

It looks like (hopefully) they might be losing their heads as the pressure builds.

This is why having someone like Lampard as your manager is perfect for these types of scenarios; He has been there and done it.

In January yes, but Boro had some poor results in December themselves, to lose 2 away games as well as pick up 1 point at home over Xmas was pretty poor for them. They probably needed to overtake us sooner with a buffer going into our tie because for us to be knocked off top to take it back 1 week later must’ve also been a big psychological kick in the teeth.

The 6 game win streak going into our match was impressive but, their away wins were against dross aside from Sheff U (who’ve lost a lot at home). I’m pretty confident if we had kinder away games in Dec-Jan, we wouldn’t have had such a bad headline form.

In reality, from Wrexham (A) to Birmingham (A) our away fixtures were v lopsided to playing the best home teams in the division. Boro have their schedule lopsided to back end of the season and their home form, whilst good, isn’t automatic promotion standard (typically needs to be 2.1 ppg and above), probably more when Ipswich have 2.2 and we have over 2.4 ppg at home.

He’s also v calm and level headed which is good imo. Lampard clearly stayed the course with some of his tactical ideas before changing it up significantly when it was apparent it wasn’t working as intended. Flailing about and trying to change things up week on week is weak leadership.

I'm trying to create a visualisation of who can mathmatically/theoretically (not realistically!) get into the top 2. It's is very basic and only considers number of points available to each team in isolation. It obviously doesnt take into account where teams play each other etc - I can't think of a way to show this.

Blue = Could reach 1st
Green = Could reach 2nd
Red = Eliminated

Probably a bit early for it, but I will update after each set of games and it should start to get interesting.

I will repeat what I said before the match yesterday: Since Onyeka's arrival and whatever else has happened behind the scenes that has made us look so much more focussed, determined and organised I do not believe there's any reason to be nervous about any of our opponents between now and the end of the season, especially at home.

It's now at a point where I'm barely bothering to keep up with what other teams are doing; we're top for a reason, are setting the tone and making it clear that we are a team to be taken extremely seriously.

Win on Saturday and there's a strong probability we would already have enough for play offs with 7th spot (Southampton) currently tracking at 68 points. Winning the next two would definitely secure it.
