    21/22 Summer transfer mega-thread

Two weeks to go. Do we reckon we’ll get this second loan in? No rumours at all is a bit of a worry, usually we hear something from somewhere when we’re looking around.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

There’s a massive replicability crisis in psychology. Stuff like “power poses” “implicit bias” “priming” “personality types” leaks into popular culture and business as fact when it’s based on one dodgy study no one can replicate.

This. That doesn’t mean there isn’t value in social sciences, but a recognition of the evidence base behind theories is needed. Education is chock full of grifters and woo. The amount of arguments I had about “learning styles” and the lack of evidence for them.

100% The idea that we’re telling kids “if you don’t do X Y or Z you’re not a *real* boy/girl and are probably something else” is some regressive bullshit.

    We will be fine.

Faster than Kelly, not the fastest man on Earth.

Not sure you can say they didn’t press first half. Agree with the second but though, just saying that to a Barnsley fan on Twitter.

Other than Mark Robins of course.

More about fans reaction than the players themselves.

They should’ve saved some cash and brought in Max and Kelly. Obviously leadership counts, but you don’t put in substandard players for it. Leaders need to be respected and lead by example, if you’re the worst player on the pitch you can’t lead because you won’t be respected.

He is very good against L1 teams that’s fair.

One thing that really impressed me yesterday was we didn’t give up in the face of Barnsley’s press. We for the most part carried on playing out from the back and for the most part did it well. Last season we’d have been lumping it up to Max or giving the ball away.

    We will be fine.

I mean I don’t have a what if machine, but the “gritty” style that works at lower leagues is all about getting tight and letting people know you’re there and yesterday as soon as a Barnsley player was less than 40 yards from goal and someone was near they fell over.

This is just the Kelly equivalent of Max’s “he tries his best and scores important goals”. You’re basically doing @Philosorapter’s model of player rating and we all saw the results that came out with. He came in at the end of the season when the side had half a season of experience and by all...

    We will be fine.

He’s not a “terrier” mostly because he’s tall TBH. But his tackling is generally really good. And his height is important. These days I’m not sure a “terrier” would even work in this division with the amount of diving. Yesterday Kelly would’ve given away tons of free kicks around the area.

    We will be fine.

I think he’s a promising young players with a killer pass in his locker and lots to improve on that I think will come with experience. I gave him a 6 yesterday mostly because he struggled with the press at times. He’s not played a full season at this level yet and I think the faster pace will...

Sheaf was 84% last season for perspective

???? Because he was slower than a pacy forward or because he didn’t take the red card?

I mean if the course is engineering then that’s fine. The problem is treating social science as as solid as physical science IMO.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Nah it’s a particular corner of academia which has repeatedly been shown to have poor standards, group think, and unprovable views. Why that’s bleeding into government policy is an interesting question though.

I said he was a gamble and explained when asked by the likes of you why I thought that. I’m glad the gamble looks like paying off. When asked how Moore’s got on I’ve said he’s done well, I’m not here two years later looking for anything I can find to justify my opinion am I?
