    Can we win the league?

That's how I've interpreted it as, it makes more sense too. Its easier said than done when most teams are putting 8-10 players behind the ball and playing for draws. I think at full strength, Andreu playing behind McNulty will be the most potent partnership we have. Playing Beavon and NcNulty...

    Can we win the league?

The comparison isn't ridiculous - we could've went top of the league during the Xmas period. The perception of most L1 fans was that we'd be up there in the playoffs/autos... before we capitulated. The key to doing well in this league is solid defence. Just look at the top 7 and the GA section...

    Can we win the league?

We've got to the exact same start as Donny - who bottled it big time - and Pompey were stop start for the first 15. Still to early to tell, but, IF we keep up our defensive form, we will be in top 7, that's almost a guarantee.

    Lee Burge

Against teams in the league above and the teams we put out were weakened. So I'd say it's unrepresentative. O'Brien conceded 3 against Blackburn, I'm also not counting that...

    Lee Burge

I'm well aware that he started with 2 clean sheets, and a fantastic performance against Blackburn. In the league though, he's responsible for 66% of our goals... he had to get dropped. Whilst it's not as important having competition between keepers, it certainly can't harm. O'Brien was signed...

Two games, two clean sheets. The prior two with O'Brien, two mistakes. As it stands, most of our goals concede are from O'Brien's mistakes alone and he was deservedly dropped. But, I think these are both good keepers for L2 and competition for starting spots is good.

    Still not there yet but...

I'm happy with where we are to be honest. Some disappointing results, but, our defence is looking like it's going to very strong. If it remains to be the case, the attacking side of the game will take care of itself. I'd be more concerned if we were leaking goals but the goals were free...

Match Thread Coventry City - Port Vale Match Thread - Saturday 9th Sep

Well, I for one prefer this new look defence. In 6 games we've conceded 1 goal that hasn't come from a GK mistake. That's fantastic. We can go into games knowing we can win 1-0 and in past Cov teams we were nervy in those situations. Defence wins games and I don't care if it's a drab affair...

Early goal, another clean sheet, couldve blown it with the red, but didn't. I'm happy.

    Kwame to Sutton

I was of the belief that Andreu would play behind McNulty when he signed given their past playing together in Scotland. Beavon has never been a player to get you goals, but, he's had several promotions and is an experienced player - you want and need those heads around your squad. You're...

    Kwame to Sutton

Kwame Thomas has played 14 games for the club, Biamou has made about 3 appearances. Neither are proven and clearly the best man to judge - Robins - disagrees with most on here. It could take just one goal to build either player's confidence, but Thomas is far too injury prone to be considered a...

    Kwame to Sutton

Exactly, there's an element of make or break: had a good run in the U23s, needs to prove form and fitness for Sutton and maybe he could play a role this season. This could also mean Ponticelli makes a few sub appearances now!

Beavon - no goals in 11 consecutive league starts...

McNulty's record was in L1, in L2 he got 10 goals in 27 for Pompey in the 15/16 season. He's got 2 in 6 for us so far - roughly about the same ratio to date. If he keeps it up, he'll get a decent haul for the season. He's proven at L2. I agree with the rest. We have players like Andreu who...

    The Worst Chairman

So we've been ran by incompetent chairmen for as long as anyone cares to remember?

    Vincenti

He plays as a wide-midfielder, and not as a winger, don't conflate the two. We have a direct, pacey and skilful winger in Jones...

    Chesterfield Highlights

Agreed. Whilst I wasn't there, it's clear to see we created enough chances to win the game, which is encouraging. I think McNulty will be up there with the top goal scorers in the league and he showed he's a threat - denied by a great save from a great effort. We've conceded 3 goals, which is...

    Chesterfield Highlights

Agreed. It's still a squad of 12 new players being brought in, they probably still need to gel a bit before things start to click. After 2 loses, getting a point at least keeps the board ticking over. We clearly created chances to win the game and it looks like McNulty just had one of those...

Match Thread Chesterfield - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 2nd Sep

I wouldn't panic just yet - none of the supposed 'front runners' have really got off to a good start either. I'll take the positive that we kept another clean sheet. But, it's now 3 consecutive league games without a goal - something needs to change.
