Match Thread Coventry City vs Cambridge United Match Thread - Tuesday 30th Jan

Read the telegraph’s preview, they’ve got injuries to key players, including the player that got 2 assists versus us, they’ve struggled to score away of late... so it’s a game we’ll probably lose.

I think we line up with the following: Burge Grimmer Willis McDonald Stokes Bayliss Kelly/Stevenson - Kelly if still 100% fit Doyle Barrett Biamou McNulty

    Big Cyrille

Which reminds me, I was at the Butts for the Cov RFC game, and they had a one minutes applause for Regis too. It was nice to see fans of all sports come together to applaud the legend of our city.

From MR’s comments, to me, it’s apparent to me he doesn’t rate Thomas. Telling a player they need to ‘reinvent’ himself, then loaning him out to Sutton and then Solihull, it doesn’t look good for his future at our club.

A weak link? He was their 3rd highest scorer with 9 goals. The only midfielder we had who was scoring goals is injured, and whilst everyone is fixated on needing a ‘Number 9’, we’ve forgotten that only Doyle has scored more than 1 league goal who is fit... If you lean too heavily on your...

    Coventry transfer deadline day

Ideally, I’d like to sign a new striker, I think we’re sound everywhere else, good enough to win promotion. The thing is, we need to shift out some bodies before we can bring in players. You mention Beavon, but I think the priority is to offload Thomas and Reid first. My impression is that’s...

In that scenario, and on a 6mth contract, I think it’d be a win-win for us. A midfielder who hit in and around 10 goals last season, and we’re lacking goals in midfield and defence. He also offers the option of playing behind the striker, making MR’s favoured 4-2-3-1 a viable option once again...

    Name a club

I’d say we’re equal in size to Sheffield United. Mind, I only knew what was going on with the club (loosely) in our first season in Division 1. Our 7th place finish under Micky Adams’ is my most memorable season to date. Let that sink in for some you older folk haha.

If there’s an opportunity to sign a striker, we need to go for it. At this point, probably likely to be a Prem loanee than an accomplished player. However, I don’t think we should sign one for the sake of it. We still have Ponticelli, Biamou looks revitalised and McNulty is in good form. If we...

    Player interactions

Once met and had a brief chat in the Kasbah with Cyrus Christie about Pressley - who had just been appointed - took a bit of time to have a chat, fair play.

Fifth Round... / Brighton Ticket Details

True, little bit wishy-washy... but I thought Stoke were gonna batter us and we beat them. So I’m not gonna be a negative nelly about the draw!

Fifth Round... / Brighton Ticket Details

My reaction to the draw is ‘meh’. It’s a good day out in Brighton, could make a weekend of it. Similar league position to Stoke. But, being away I think we’ll get beat, 2 or 3-0. We’ll get a massive allocation and I’m hoping we go out valiantly or even go for a giant killing. I think it could...

Fifth Round... / Brighton Ticket Details

I wouldn’t complain if we drew a big team and we beat them haha I’d just hate to draw another MK Dons/Notts County type tie. At least with MK, we knew we’d get a massive allocation and we outnumbered the home support. It was an away tie in all but name with that kind of support.

Fifth Round... / Brighton Ticket Details

Man Utd away for the glamour tie. However, I probably wouldn’t get a ticket (miss the perks of being a ST holder) so I’d prefer them at home. The players want it and so do Robins. I just want a big team home or away. Bar Man City, I think they’d ruin us 5-1 or worse which I think would damage...

    Well done Biamou

Fair play to him, 2 in 2. Just needs to kick on get to 5+ league goals. Goals were the only thing missing from his game because his work rate and link play is good. Long may it continue. I reckon Robins publically saying we need a ‘number 9’ has shoved a proverbial rocket up his arse. Fair play...

You're in Robins shoes, what would you do?

B all day long. Look, this hypothetical scenario you pose is totally flawed. It’s a much worthwhile question asking whether or not we should sell Stevenson for some imaginary striker or whatever. Here are some things for you to think about: - it’s now the 29th Jan, assuming we receive bids for...

Match Thread Coventry City vs Cambridge United Match Thread - Tuesday 30th Jan

With our home form of late, I think we really should be winning this game. However, it’s also the kind of game we usually lose, and we’ve just had a tough cup game whilst Cambridge had a week off. Would take the scrappiest of 1-0 wine. But I think we’ll probably draw this one 1-1. I’m looking...

First three on the team sheet

    1) Doyle 2) McNulty 3) Willis

You're in Robins shoes, what would you do?

Why is there this obsession about selling Willis for a striker? No one is even interested in him. Bradford were in the summer and weren’t willing to match our evaluation. Considering his performances in the best defence in the division, his value has gone up, not down. Every transfer is the...
