    St Andrew's it is then

So if all true City fans just get over themselves, pack St Andrew's every week, what incentive is there for SISU to build a new ground in Coventry? Does Coventry even need a football club?

    St Andrew's it is then

It's an inconvenience that puts a hard ceiling on this club's potential. This isn't about who's a better fan than who.

    St Andrew's it is then

If our plan is to play in Birmingham until a new stadium is agreed and built, then I'm not sure we'll survive it. Easy to put a brave face on this when we've just won the league, but if we spend all year getting smashed at St Andrew's, it's going to get pretty bleak pretty fast. Worst of all...

Wasn't the flag voting pinned at the top of the board once upon a time?

New Stadium - The pessimist's view...

SISU disagree with you, which is why negotiations with Wasps continue. I agree it's a desperate situation - so were the last few years at Highfield Road. But I don't think we should have tried to build our way out of it in 2005, and I have my doubts about doing it again now.

New Stadium - The pessimist's view...

Of course, but the parallels are there. We're struggling with a punitive rent agreement at our current home in Coventry We're doing well on the pitch and want a stadium that reflects a new, brighter future for the club We want to control/maximize our stadium revenues both on matchdays and...

New Stadium - The pessimist's view...

Very true. The big question though - is spending £30 million+ on a new stadium the most cost-effective way to get that kind of control over our own ground? It wasn't the first time round!

New Stadium - The pessimist's view...

Any examples of it being done at our kind of scale? I've seen it done (very impressively!) at big stadiums, 80,000-seater or so. Not sure how it would work at our level, unless you have very very small tiers.

New Stadium - The pessimist's view...

So basically what we've been doing with the Ricoh for ages? Maybe we could put a Jimmy Hill flag up.

New Stadium - The pessimist's view...

I mean, you joke, but this idea that we can just build a modular/easily expandable stadium (which I'm yet to see a decent real-life example of) and then not worry about it is pretty much exactly that.

New Stadium - The pessimist's view...

A lot of sense coming from both sides of the debate on here. The desire to escape the Ricoh is well-intentioned, and the chances of us returning there on favourable terms seems pretty remote atm. With the team doing well, there's more good will for the owners' intentions than there has been in a...

New Stadium - The pessimist's view...

CBRE were happy to have their name on our much-derided stadium announcement in 2013, and it doesn't seem to have done them much harm. Warwick's involvement is interesting, but there's nothing here that can't be very easily and quietly unwound later on.

    New Stadium Announcement!!!!!!

Lighten up - if we just have some positivity about this project, then we could be the next Shrewsbury! Anyway, you don't need to worry, this new Coventry stadium will definitely, definitely have a railway station this time.

    New Stadium Announcement!!!!!!

Have to disagree with you unfortunately. Just from an access point of view alone, it's awful. I can't honestly believe many fans come away from a trip to Shrewsbury thinking "Yes - this is what my club should aspire to"

    New Stadium Announcement!!!!!!

That's what we're aiming for? Shrewsbury? Can't say I'm doing cartwheels at that.

New Stadium - The pessimist's view...

Hard to disagree with the OP, and I think the reception for this announcement would be a lot different if it had come off the back of another middling season in L1. I think a deal of this nature with Warwick is the kind of thing that can easily be scaled back to becoming a state-of-the-art...

    New Stadium Announcement!!!!!!

I would hope they would do a better job with the stadium design and surrounding infrastructure than the Ricoh, but plenty of clubs botch this kind of thing, and our track record isn't exactly sparkling in this department. I'm just surprised everyone's so bullish on such an early stage...

    New Stadium Announcement!!!!!!

Because it might turn out to be some combo of soulless, inaccessible or unsustainable. Not that we'd ever do that with a new stadium project of course.

    New Stadium Announcement!!!!!!

Have to say I'm surprised by the overwhelmingly positive reaction from everyone on here, although I suppose winning the league buys you a lot of good will! I would be delighted if we could pull a fast one on the council/Wasps, and build an exciting, modern new stadium on the edge of town that...
