    Future of this Football club.

To go back to the opening post I've said a few times that history will show the sale of the Ricoh to Wasps as the biggest single event leading to our demise. Today may not be far behind. Where do we go from here? Realistically we have no ground, and at best a crappy deal that prevents us being...

    Sports England

But when I look at it from that point of view I find it difficult to see how this meets any criteria. Higgs Centre was built on municipal land that only got the go ahead in the first place on the basis of it being a facility for the public. There seems to me to be a huge net loss in facilities...

Sport England green light for wasps training base at Higgs

Hang on, have they actually been given new information or have they just approved it anyway? Coincidence this is the day after the council agree to put £10m in?

    Recruitment screwed up

Simple question for the SCG to ask, think they have a meeting tonight. When TF or CA refer to budget are the referencing the maximum theoretical spend or the real world amount and what, if anything, is the difference between the two.

And that's the problem, but for those at the very top there is no need for this facility. Are we applying this same thinking to other sports? If so we don't need to worry about Higgs as the council will already have plans underway to build us a Cat 1 academy just in case the next Messi happens...

    Recruitment screwed up

But the thing people have been getting angry about is this seasons budget being slashed, which it hasn't by Mowbrays own admission. So whichever he is referring to is largely irrelevant in terms of comparison between the two seasons.

    Recruitment screwed up

There is a document the FL publishes, for clubs only, called the benchmarking report which, without naming them, contains details of the budget for all the clubs. Off the back off that it was stated, I think at the SCG, that we were in the top quarter (I think, going from memory). So as TM has...

    Tony Mowbray

What he actually said was “You’d have to ask Mark (Venus) but if it has changed it hasn’t changed significantly”. To me that says that Venus handles the details of the budget but there is no real difference from Mowbrays POV so he's looking at players of the same calibre, or at least cost, he...

I have no idea where you would get those figures but a bit of googling shows the number of swimmers in general and in particular elite swimmers is dropping. Sport England also say that for all but those at the very top of the sport there is no need for a 50m facility, 25m is fine. You can also...

    Recruitment screwed up

No it wouldn't give them any return. If they put that in do you really think the following season in trying to compete in the championship where, history tells us, we are towards the bottom end in terms of revenue thanks to our stadium situation there will be a seven figure surplus for SISU to...

The evidence would tend to suggest that no they couldn't. The council have a history, going back before SISU arrived, of not wanting to sell to the club. I have seen nothing during SISU's tenure to indicate the council had changed from that stance.

But when the council claimed we didn't need a 50m pool Maton was on the radio saying there were Team GB Olympic swimmers who trained in 25m pools. How many top level swimmers do we have? The British Swimming website shows 32 in the whole of Britain. Of course its great to have the best...

    Tony Mowbray

That's how it reads to me, looks like he was going after Championship level players and they were holding out for, and got, better offers. A dangerous game to play now that there are no loans once the window closes. January is never great for recruitment, although given the new loan rules that...

    Future of this Football club.

Not really. There's a 25m pool being built in the city centre so this pool, given its location is being built for elite swimmers. The same people the council dismissed when they wanted to close Fairfax Street, the same people the council stated it wasn't there responsibility to provide for as it...

    Never in doubt

Well the plans for the swimming pool include rugby facilities so three guess who the pool is for the benefit of - you'll probably only need one.

What do they class as elite? British Swimming has 32 elite swimmers in the whole of Britain.

    Never in doubt

This came up on an older thread. Think the council have pulled a bit of a fast one here. They announced they were closing the 50m pool in town (it turned out the council actually hadn't bothered to read the commissioned report into if it should stay open) and then when there was a predictable...
