In relation to player performance/value. I agree you can use them if you are, for instance, measuring the daily temperature but that’s as pointless as saying the league table is made up of them. They will tell you nothing about a players ability.
The problem is whether us keeping Sheaf if we get bids will unsettle him. A contractual situation is one thing but how the player feels is another. With Sheaf I don’t think it would be an issue hopefully.

But if you break that down it just doesn’t make sense. Case for Browne. Proven, no risk, no fee, just wages. Case for Stamenic. Not proven, therefore a risk, 4m fee and wages.
Strange psyche football fans have. We’ll be over the moon spending 4m on this chap and then his wages if we get him. But we’ve just lost out on Browne, proven at this level and there for the taking. If Stamenic gets to 80% of Browne he’ll be doing well. 4m is a good lot of wages. A rather...
Canny club Preston. That’s a big miss. He may not be too glamorous but in our side he’s the type of player that would get us promoted. Big miss but can’t go wild with wages.
This is precisely the sort of signing that we have made and should continue to pursue. Young, virtually unknown with lots of potential. Better than casting the net in the overpriced Championship. The only thing I’d get from the Championship are out of contract merchants where you only have wages...
