… I’ll let you debate that with 2019/20 Fernando. He had some nice touches but it was less convinced with how we looked defensively and in possession it was often too cautious (this isn’t just Torp btw).

Exactly, I reckon that’s the profile we’re going for because there’s a lot of potential in all 4 of our current CBs. In the two games so far, we’ve been a bit open and my concern is that our defence will not be good enough to finish in the Top 4.

    Summer transfer window 2024

I believe, perhaps naively, that there’s still funds that was earmarked for the Stamenic transfer that never went through. There’s been snippets that we’re still negotiating for Marsden. We were told about Dovin at the start of the window and he came in about 6-8 weeks after the matter. If...

I agree that we need a dynamic RB but I still feel we look open in defence and for that reason, if the choice is one or the other, you’d have to go for a CB all day.

Match Thread Bristol City FC - Coventry City [LC] Match Thread - Tuesday 13th Aug

Pretty bang average game and glad Robins called that out. Our midfield without Sheaf looks weak. It’s without a doubt our top priority to get a CM through the door this window. Too conservative in possession, we’ve got bags of pace which we’re often not using. Just got in from the game and...

You’re really obtuse when you want to be so let’s revisit some of the things you had to say about how great our season was going in Dec 2019: I didn’t have to go back further, before Xmas our form over the prior 10 games had us 19th, hence my comments about a slow start. Goodnight Fernando.

Revisit that seasons fixture and results list. The first games was a decent start tracking at 2 PPG, but from then on, until the the midway point, we dropped off a lot. 1-23 - 40 points, 1.74 PPG 24-34 - 27 points, 2.45 PPG Specifically, our form picked up from the game before Xmas. In the...

Except 1 of those isn’t a CM, 1 was signed when we were a midtable L1 team and 2 of those are will miss around 10 games a season each. If we aspire to go for promotion, the midfield needs more quality and it’s absolutely non-negotiable.

    Bristol Away (Cup) ticket details

I have a U22 ticket and frankly, anyone can have it for free at this point. I’m driving to Bristol from work around 4ish so will be at the ground for 6-7ish.

Agreed. What would be a sackable offence for Robins? In my view, if we don’t make playoffs this season (finishing Top 9 or 10) there will be a lot of pressure going into 2025/26 where a slow start would probably result in the sack. Other than that, only a disaster this season such as a...

How do ensure squad members not in the starting 11 are at their best if they’ve not played a lot of minutes or not at all? It isn’t as simple as just having a squad. Yep. It applies to both the macro and microcycles. You will be looking at the optimal times to peak your performance throughout...

I’m assuming you’ve never heard of something called periodisation? Literally coach in every sport will try to utilise this. In short, it gears the athletes to be physically and mentally at their best at the most important parts of the season. So no, it isn’t setting them up to ‘play better’...

It is, you compare to other seasons and we’d have been out of touch the years where the points tallies were higher. We strung together a really good run of consecutive wins against teams around us that allowed us to go and win the league. Before that 8-1-0 run we were in playoff contention, not...

The operative word was relatively. We were out of the playoffs for more games than we were in the automatics and it was only around Xmas that year we stormed to top spot. Likewise, in 22/23 we spent less time in the playoffs than QPR who finished 20th. Let’s be honest, the L1 season, not many...

    Victor Torp

I don’t think we’ll be good enough for automatics this season even if we sign 2 marquee players. Top 4 is realistic with those extra bodies that add quality, as I’ve said in previous threads, we haven’t actually improved our midfield or defensive options from last season. So I agree on those...

It’s probably fitness related, the club probably plans to have players peaking leading up to Xmas period (for arguments sake). We’ve just had the olympics, so for context, athletes will often plan their cycles with the big events in mind so will often be performing at 80-90% in between those...

Which is not automatics. The reality is we entered the automatics and then top spot 2-3 weeks before the season ended. In relative terms, it’s a ‘slow start’.

To state the obvious, you want to peak towards the end of the season when the most games are, right? We’ve started slowly every season (barring season 2 in Championship). Even the year we won League 1, we won our first away game in December (v Wycombe). Particularly when we were rubbish (pre...

People never learn. We had one below par performance and all of a sudden it’s a shit team full of shit players. Torp’s only really getting started now with the amount of games he missed last season. Give him at least 10-15 games before writing him off!
