Apart from SNP being pro-remain in a pro-remain country and pro-independence when Alexander has specifically ruled out another independence referendum.......

I think it's more delusional than anything. Farage has accepted that he can't win the election outright and IMO may be being savvy pulling more and more people so if they do badly he can use the standing candidates down as an excuse for that and claiming they'd have won some of those. Swinson...

    Armistice Day

But if enough of those at the top of the military/police disagreed with the action they could've used logistic processes etc to prevent or slow that down. In extreme measures, and I'm not advocating such things, there'd even be the option of a coup. It is why it's dangerous giving presidents...

Still way too early to predict the outcome IMO. God knows what monumental gaffes and fuck-ups all of them will do in the next few weeks. How will Alexander do in the debates? (Mind you as long as he turns up he's outperformed May) Even the weather on the day could have an impact. More...

Well, he got the election he wanted anyway. Whether he got the deal he wanted is debatable as he kept looking for any excuse he could to pull it.

    Armistice Day

I get your point but in saying the people have no choice isn't always strictly true. With Hitler he undoubtedly wanted to expand Germany and lied to his people to do so, using religion as an excuse. Along the way he consolidated his power using improved economic performance as a means of...

Rather than a double vote you have to put your vote into a machine and answer a multiple choice question or two on the issues/manifestos. If you get them wrong your vote is shredded. So those who aren't engaged in the process get less of a say than those that do engage.

Of course it's not a national emergency - it's not in the SE. Make it london and billions would be found to defend them, esp if they were rich peoples homes. So now it's the residents fault for NOT listening to the emergency services. Wasn't it the residents fault at Grenfell because they DID...

I agree totally about the safety net and it stopping bad ideas, but in reality it has rarely done that and the few times it has has seen the PM and others get in a huff about "unelected" "overreach" etc and threaten HoL overhaul. The Commons seem to see the Lords as an extension of the Queen -...

I also like the theory of experience but the main way they get that experience is by following party lines so they keep getting selected in easy-win seats so when they eventually move up to the Lords they're just a party stooge. So it is still far too party politics and cronies in the upper...

Can you elaborate on what specifically you think is good about the idea of the Lords? I like the fact there is a second chamber but as for the selection it all seems a bit arbitrary and 'jobs for the boys/girls'. It's not really accountable and is becoming bloated with every change of...

It's a problem, but it's not like we get that now in the Lords or Commons. I feel sure there is an even better way than mine somewhere but in the meantime I think mine would be an incremental improvement and might just help someone down the line have that Eureka moment to improve on it. Sadly...

As I've said before we need both. Having a directly accountable MP is a good thing, but it does on the whole lead to a potential scenario where the biggest % of vote doesn't get into govt. No constituences will see everywhere north of Watford forgotten apart from during election times and if...

I do agree the strategy seems a bit odd in the respect that it on the whole gives the Tories a free run at many seats they'd win anyway. Although there will be some marginals they're pulling out of the main ones they should have looked to pull out of IF their intention is to help the Tories are...

    FA Cup Second Round Draw

Can't see it. At this stage it's still the 'romance' of the cup and all the tv ties will be the smaller NL clubs and L1/L2. Although we are probably the 'best' tie of the round it's only when it's very top PL teams playing each other they show them. Say get to R3 and the best two teams to be...

WE may not forget, but we remember because we know or knew people directly involved. It has an actual human resonance. But we won't be around forever. In a couple of generations kids will see it as just another thing they learn in history. They may know their great-great grandad fought or was...
