But that's not what he's doing. He's clearly in an awkward position so he's telling people that he's personally not been ill-treated and would like to play in front of as many fans as possible, yet as a player is powerless to make the decision himself.

At Warwick we've got the sports pavilion side of campus with the well-kept pitches and clubhouse that could easily be used solely by the academy when the schedule suits and the Tarkett all-weather* pitch, but there's no indoor pitch bigger than a 6-a-side sports hall.
