Films Not As Good As The Books ?

Tolkein's works are another example of this - his world was so expansive that you would never be able to put it all into a film unless you were looking at 20+ hours of film, but by making the films they allowed people to access the story that many never would otherwise. I think they did a...

    Your own new political party

Full-time childcare has become a part of the world we live in. And most of the time it is used for neccesity.. not beacuse a parent wants to 'dump' their child in there. The cost of it often exceeds that of a mortgage - so if you are a single parent you are faced with the choice of working and...

Taking kids on holiday during term time

I agree with this entirely - especially as being part of a school that has a big push on 'enrichment' - they are lots of students that regularly miss whole days or part days for these activities... so in the grand scheme of things missing a week to spend with your family is nothing IMO.

    Your own new political party

Yes - but a lot of these schools offer full boarding... my point was that surely putting a child in a boarding school is no different to putting them in full time childcare.

I guess it is something we will never agree on then....

Which gives a nice balance to your 'keep the poor people where they belong' capitalist mantra.

    Your own new political party

Hang on... isn't this the much celebrated independent school model? Pack kids off so someone else brings them up? At least with childcare you pick them up at the end of each day... not the end of 6 weeks.

Taking kids on holiday during term time

Wasn't there a case not too long ago where a parent challenged a council fine and the judge said it was unenforceable (or something to that effect)? You can see why parents do it... even if you add in the cost of a fine it's still miles cheaper than going in the holidays.

    General Election

IMO the world we now live does not possess the same type of threats that it did after WWII, Cold War, Cuban Missile Crisis. Things have evolved and as such ISIS is the No.1 threat to the world. We are not going to wipe out ISIS with a nuke. To hurt ISIS we need to cut off their funding, stop...

    General Election

Protested against the Iraq war - he was right. Stated in a speech several years ago that if we invaded countries like Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan that if we did not put a proper infastructure in place we (and the world in general) would suffer the consequences of this - again he was right. Not...

    General Election

At least the 2 main party leaders are getting it on the same scale now. You can't complain about May getting grief when you look at the Corbyn has been vilified. Difference is Corbyn never resorted to vicious personal insults.... that was literally May's only gameplan.

It is entirely possible that there may be some MP's that don't have ulterior motives. You can understand the cynicism however.

    New signing pending?

I heard he won't come unless we re-name the city after him. The council are potentially keen on the idea.

Can anyone explain how this is not a terrorist attack?

I do find it bizarre why people like Robinson are given any publicity at all.. same with Farage (former leader of a party with precisely 0 MP's) and Hopkins. The xenophobic rubbish they pedal can incite people just as much.

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

It's not bias - it's seeing a group of individuals leading us down a path that benefits very few people. Leaving the EU is the biggest thing this country has done in the last 50 years. For the sake of everyone it should be led up with cross party consensus and the negotiating team should be...

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

At what point did I or anyone else express the view that we hated the UK? Is this how we teach tolerance and negotiation to people? By telling them that if they dare question or challenge something that they can leave?
