Given the budgets we had to play with, our recruitment truly was exceptional. Obviously the landscape has completely changed now (predominantly off the back of them & the profits raised) but the new recruitment team look, on paper at least, to be doing a great job too. Long may it continue.

No, exactly. Assessing the data & being able to contextualise it - technical scouting as we call it, is a real skill in itself. With regards mental attributes no - that's why you scout in person too & also get references from others in the game as to their character etc.

That is how it does work, 100%. Clubs like Brighton have enormous databases of potential signings that they have identified using data but they still go & scout them in person. Might be mistaken but I think Brighton were the first to have position specific scouts too.

It's funny how some of the more 'traditionalist' football people, especially fans, hate all the modern use of data & statistics when the evidence couldn't be clearer as to its importance in giving clubs like these a massive leg up over rivals & much bigger/richer/more established clubs.
