Local residents in Weddington have been fighting a bitter battle against Nuneaton and Bedworth council over plans to build hundreds of new homes on the greenbelt up there.
It would be a brave council to waste land on a football stadium whilst having to build houses all over the countryside.

Might be cynical of me to think this, but were the discussions with Rugby not just to expand Ryton in order to avoid going back to the Higgs centre?
Rugby told them where to go and they had to go back cap in hand to the higgs.
Even then though they can never be 100% certain that they will get planning permission.
We still live in a democracy and just because a council would indicate to sisu that they would get planning permission, that doesn't mean it would happen.

They have said that they have had discussions with various councils, that's what an FOI request would be to find out.
Had they applied for planning permission then it would already be public knowledge as that cannot be done in secret.
