    Newcastle United Saudi Takeover

They bought a decent chunk of shares in a concert promoter, think it was LiveNation who then put out a statement saying there was nothing they can do to control who buys shares as they're publicly traded. PIF (the Saudi company) then filed something with the US stock exchange basically saying...

    Things that annoy you

90 minutes into trying to work out why everything at one site has suddenly gone offline "some workman cut a cable from a pole outside to the building just before it went off, is that related?". Why didn't you tell me that at the start!

It is but a match day gives a nice focal point for those who protest against the Saudis, arms trade etc? Likely to get more publicity protesting at, or even disrupting, matches than they are standing outside a government building.

    Newcastle United Saudi Takeover

The mental gymnastics some of their fans are doing to justify this are incredible. Seen more than one person saying other people can't complain about human rights abuses by their new owner as nobody mentioned it before they were taken over. Takes a few seconds on google to find numerous protests...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Went down a google wormhole reading about different voting systems and found a report on a meeting of specialists in voting procedures to discuss which system worked best. FPTP came bottom of the pile. https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-00609810/document

    Item Would you be happy?

I'm not really in favour of the mega rich taking over clubs and having a handful of clubs that nobody else can compete with but there's an element of if you can't beat them join them. I'd love to see us winning things and playing in Europe. There's a second part to this though and that's where...

    Coronavirus Thread (Off Topic, Politics)

The official guidance is to keep her separate as much as is practically possible but when we had this discussion recently there was a lot of people on here saying they would ignore that as it couldn't be legally enforced, ie you won't get fined if you don't follow the guidance.

Will be funny if its just some weird political move and they don't end up pumping loads of money into them.

    Newcastle United Saudi Takeover

He's got a point. Under Ashley they've only spent £519m on players and had to endure 2 seasons in the Championship, going up as winners both times. Clearly that's far worse than administration, ending up in L2, playing in Northampton and Birmingham, renting the stadium built for you from a...

    Newcastle United Saudi Takeover

At some point you'd have to think the bubble will burst. There's two options here, its either a hobby for the super rich and people can lose interest in hobbies or the other option which I probably shouldn't post about on a public forum given they can afford much better lawyers than me! If its...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Not sure going from 33% to 35% is much cause for optimism if you're a Labour supporter given that 33% led to what we keep being reminded was the worst night for Labour since 1935.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

To answer my own question couldn't find anything for 2019 with a quick google but did find some data for 2017 which suggests a progressive alliance would have put the Conservatives down to 267 with a progressive alliance of Labour, Lib Dem & Green on 325.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Have those numbers been crunched on a seat by seat basis for the last election? Would be interesting to see the impact it would have had. Obviously not an exact science as you don't know that if, for example, a Labour candidate stood down all those votes would go to the remaining progressive...
